Post by: Bldtrailer on March 10, 2015, 11:39:00 AM

I buy cabbalas brand boots.  They're made by Mendyl and have lasted longer than any other boots I've ever owned.  Plus they have a no questions asked lifetime warrantee so you are essentially buying boots for life.  I'm terribly tough on hiking boots and wear them every day so these have been a no brainer for me.

Vasque GTX series. Breeze 2.0 for lighter boots, St. Elias for heavy loads. Vibram sole is great and lasts for thousands of miles. I wish they made a model with Air Bob soles, though.

I'm a bit partial to Meindl boots (not all of Cabelas' boots are Meindl), but regardless of the brand, they will eventually need to be re-soled. I will have Air Bobs put on my Meindls next time. I went through the rear corner of the original heel pretty fast due to a bad, shuffling walk. The nice lady at the re-sole place said she would put some on that wouldn't wear so fast. She sure did!!! I sound like a 300lb woman walking in high heels on a wooden floor   :)   Feels like I'm walking on wooden blocks, too. Oh well, they have lasted very well and I may have to have to have them replaced way before they start wearing out.

I've never had a pair of Meindl boots that leaked, and one pair was 14 years when I retired them. As mentioned above, if they leak, take them back for new ones.

I have 2 pair Cabelas'  Meindl ( 1 pr non & 1pr of 400grn insulated) that now leak, but are the most comfortable boots I own.

Lacrosse knee high rubber boots. I have three pairs in different weights, from no insulation to 1200 grams.  Take me from all but worst of summer through this winter. In a state where you can't throw a dead cat without hitting a wet spot they keep my feet DRY and comfortable for all day walks or sits.

Since you said you do not want rubber.  Look at the Irish Setters.  I picked up a a pair about 6 years ago after Danner went downhill and I have not been happier.

Bldtrailer, buy your boots from a retailer who gives a money back guarantee. First thing I do when I get a new pair of boots is to stand in the lake as deep as possible without going over the top. If they leak; back they go. If they don't leak, I walk around the lake to dry them and break them in. I do it each year I own them and have not had a pair leak yet. I know it could happen, so that's why I test them right up front.

I have a wide foot. I do not believe the Keens have a wide size. Thanks

I have a pair of light weight Keens that are ankle high.  They fit a wide foot better than other especially in the toe box.

The only brand of leather boots I've owned that didn't leak were Irish Setter. But, that was quite awhile ago. I use all rubber Muck Boots now.

A lot of walking in Mtns in rain and or wet grass?  Meindl
Really, really wet -maybe standing in water?
Muck type boots of one kind or another.

For me THIS!

Had three (different insulation value) pairs of Meindl boots (Cabelas labeled) and they are they only boot that has consistently kept me dry even directly walking in water.

For situations that have less mileage involved - Mucks.

And for the guy that said the above is a no-brainer, I must have no brains :-) because I have tried others for some reason and have not been happy with the other major brand choices.

Make a list of all the boot brands you can think of on your own, plus all the ones you've heard mentioned elsewhere. Now put that list in the fireplace, and go find some    LOWA boots (http://www.lowaboots.com/catalog/hunting/?Type=M) . Your days of shopping around will soon be over, leaving more time for shooting your bow(s) and hunting all day long with dry, comfortable feet.

Unless you need the particular attributes of the LaCrosse boots mentioned above, which I endorse and wear as well.       ;)

I never seem to be having any fun until my feet are wet, so I wear canvas military grade boots or moose hide mocs most of the time.  However if it is a little bit colder and I have a steam to cross, I will add seal skins and if it a lot colder I wear mukluks and hope for good ice.

Well cabela's is going to send a new pr for the 1  yr old boots(leaking)I'm still working on 1 1/2yr old boots. but you need to keep your receipt(or no dice, who keeps the more than a year?)     "Cabela's brand clothing and footwear is guaranteed for the lifetime of the product under normal wear and tear and defects in workmanship."  I had to ask them WHO's life time, took a lot of phone time to get this far.
