Title: questions about magnus 1 4 blade ??
Post by: silent sniper on March 09, 2015, 09:08:00 AM
Hey guys I have a question for you. I know the magnus 1 2 blade is a great head and is a solid killing machine.

My question is about their 4 blade version of the MA 1.   I was reading various reviews and some people stated the bleeder blade was almost impossible to install. Anyone have any problems with that?

Can you remove the bleeders once your broadhead is glued onto the shaft?

What is your overall opinion of the MA 1 4 blade?

I am working up some turkey arrows and I thought the MA 1 4 blade would be some deadly medicine against some big thunder chickens. Thanks SS.

The big Magnus 4 blade has been my go to broadhead since their introduction. I've killed a pile of game with them.

If the taper of the shaft is prepared properly there is no problem installing the bleeder blade.
Pulling it into place with pliers until snug will usually keep it secure.

I will most often put a couple of dots of fletching cement along the bleeder where it contacts the ferrule just for insurance. That keeps it honest but does not prevent easy removal of the blade.

Often you can warm the bleeder gently which will melt a little ferrule cement (if that is what you use) and also keep it in place.

Both of those tips are just insurance and not really needed.

They make an awesome turkey head. As a matter of fact I'm sharpening mine up for the approaching season right now.

My go-to head as well.  You have to prep the shaft/taper to receive the bleeder.  I had some problems with the bleeder being a little loose or coming loose upon drawing from my quiver; I finally resolved that with a slight tap with hammer and punch on the bleeder slot.

In my experience the bleeder is very easy to install...impressively so actually.  Yes...you can remove the bleeders once the head is glued on.  It is a slick system tried and true.

I would add that is is really nice to be able to sharpen the main blade sans bleeders, unlike the Zwickey 4 blade Eskie & Delta (a most excellent head as well).

The only time I've had issues installing the bleeders was when the taper of the insert was too long. I just cut them off or switched to 100 grn glue in inserts.

I have a scroll saw blade that will fit the bleeder blade slot. If you are using wood shafts, just slide the saw blade thru the bleeder slot and cut a kerf in the shaft taper. Works great if you like a longer taper on your shaft. I do this after mounting the head so I can align the head how I like.
