Never shot or held a SuperK; how does the grip compare to a Kodiak Hunter or is it closer to another Bear model?
My personal preference is the grip of the SK, but grips are a personal thing so you may find the KH more to your liking.
Even with that said, you will find varying grips from year to year among the same model. The KH of 67-69 had a much higher grip that the later ones. I found the SK grips very similar from year to year and find that they are somewhat smaller/narrower than the KH.
Still, your best move is to try'em even though I expect you will find good things to like about both.
There can be a big difference between the two and just as much difference in the same model. My 68 superk had a totally different feeling grip than the superk I had from the early 90's. Same thing with the 69 khunter I had and the ones I had from the mid 70's. Despite this, they all were comfortable and felt good to me.
I find the Kodiak Hunter grip to be higher and fatter than I care for; prefer the Grizzly to it for example.
I currently own a 76 Super K the grip is perfect for my hand (I wear Large gloves)I can get a grip on it because it just fits my hand, I had a 2007 SuperK and the handle felt fat especially in the palm area. I also currently own a 69 KH and I have owned a mid 70s green with blue stripe bow and both felt very fat and large for me, I wound up selling the green KH I still own the 69 and have been shooting it as of late.
Sounds like they haven't been consistent through the years. Best bet is to put my hands on the vintage I'm looking at before buying. TNX.
Since they were shaped by hand just like bows of today, variations do occur. However, I find it somewhat amazing just how similar they can be.
...and I do agree that the 76 SK has a great grip.
One thing I left out was I feel the grips on the two KH's felt pretty close, even with the big gap in manufacture.
