Archery deer season opens next weekend here in AL. Last thursday, I moved one of my stands to a corner of a cutover where there is a logging road and a real good trail intersecting. Last year the logging road was covered with scrapes and rubs. It got dark on me when I moved the stand and I did'nt get completely through setting it up, so I went back to finish yesterday afternoon. I also carried my pole saw to trim some limbs and small trees. As I approached the stand (around 5:30) yesterday afternoon, I caught some movement. I stopped and squatted behind a blown down treetop. There were at least 3 large deer right underneath the stand. They exited into the cutover and I waited about 20 minutes before moving on up to the stand. Hopefully, I did'nt spook them too bad and they will return next weekend.
Our season started ths week but it is too dang hot to hunt. Who ever heard of 90 degrees and humid in October in Indiana? That dang Al Gore and his global warming invention!
I've got a new 40 acre place to hunt and no desire to fight bugs and sweat!. Supposed to cool down next week. How you southern guys do it I don't know.
Good luck. Have fun.
Ours started Oct 1 but this afternoon is the first time I will have a chance to hit the woods. It is driving me insane.
I hear ya Greg! I'm coming to my parents house to hunt for the first week of the season. Hope it cools off a little. Came up about a week ago and found some really impressive rub lines that are in a perfect little narrow funnel that will hopefully give me a nice "short" shot. A little rain and a 6-8 degree drop in temps should make for a great start to bowseason.
Maybe we can get together while I'm up.
Good luck,
Mark
My season is just about over, can hunt next week then it's over for me till spring turkey......stabow
