Title: Feather Grinding
Post by: eckterling on March 03, 2015, 02:01:00 PM
Hey everyone,

My name is Josh and have been communicating with Magnus since he posed last fall about getting out of the feather grinding business. I recently drove over to Matt's (Magnus') house and worked with him for hours learning his technics on how he produced such a nice product. I have been grinding feathers for a few years on my own but Matt taught me a bunch of tips and tricks that is really going to help me out. I have taken his old orders and will be finishing them for him and honoring the deals he had with people. It is going to take a little bit of time to get my new system set up, but I wanted to get the word out with spring turkey season coming up.
I am still working closely with Matt to ensure the feathers get returned correctly. If you have any questions please send me a PM!

Thanks!
Josh

It is a shame most all of the big companies stopped grinding wild feathers. Maybe I can help keep the natural look alive!

I am going to try to catch up here in the next couple weeks before I start taking more in.

Thanks!

Those sound good to me also. I've got some of the 4 inch low profile, and like them a lot.

Matt's good people... and you have some big shoes to fill following in his footsteps, Josh!

I'm sure it will be a grand venture for you and I know Matt made tons of good friends here thru his feather biz...and it kept the wolf from the door in lean times.

Keep us posted on your progress.  If I'm fortunate enough to get any birds or know others who do, I found a way to use a box cutter to fillet out the bones and just send the feathers still whole and attached but with the heavy bones and all the meat GONE!

Let's keep in touch!

You guys are in good hands. After talking with Josh several times and then meeting with him when he made the trip over I knew he was the right person to take over the grinding. He already had a knack for grinding and he has the passion. It was a pleasure to finally meet in person Josh and thank you for taking over. Your going to do great.

Can you grind other feathers, such as pheasant?  I make traditional Asian arrows, and some of them have fletching up to 11" on a 37" arrow.  I can strip them off the rachis, but I damage one in four and am tired of wasting them.

I think I should have a batch up there too. As you transition over, watch for my name. It's not a huge bunch, so not a deal breaker for sure. I wanted the lefties, you keep the righties.

Thanks and good luck to both of you!
