After building my first back quivers, I found myself with nice pieces of left-over leather that were too small to make another back quiver, but too big to just toss away.
The first thing I did was make a few small items:

These were fun to make, and useful, but I needed to make something bigger. Why not make possibles bags!.
At first, I was going to make one for myself, but my wife and I are going to Juneau in a couple of weeks, and we always bring some gifts for the grandkids, so I made these:

They are roughly 6x6, just right for them carry around small items. I still need to make one for our 13 year old grand daughter, but it will be of a different design. It will be a bit bigger with an interior pocket or two.
Of course, my wife and daughter now want one, and our 30 year old daughter in Juneau will want one, and so will the daugher-inlaw.... I still want one too, but now I'll have to buy maybe a double shoulder to have enough leather!
Mine will probably be made with a softer leather to be a bit quieter in the woods, It will be bigger to carry the stuff I'd normally put in my haversack. It may have a divider, and probably a couple of pockets. It should look good alongside my back quiver. I'll post a photo of what I come up with for a design (once I have one.)
Awesome! Great looking work!
Lots of good ideas there. And then, when you buy another double shoulder, you will have to really get started in earnest and then, before you know it, you'll be out of leather again. Tandy is going to love you :)
I make my strike plates out of leather (old wallets)
You do beautiful work, I like 'em all.
Bob
Sweet .
I use left overs to make pocket quivers. Your work looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Those look Great!
Nice Job!
Those look Great!
x2
Nice ideas and great looking too.
Akbowbender, are those limb tip protectors in that first pic on the top. If so how do you keep them from falling off the bottom limb?
I have some 3rivers leather tip protectors but they rattle because they are loose fitting I wrapped them with old bow string real tight to stop it but I would like to make my own.
What would be the best way to go about making my own? I have a Tandy leather catalog but other than making a few arrow rest and a few tabs I have know idea what I'm doing. Also, I have never stitched leather.
Very nice work as always Chuck! You're sure to have a bunch of happy females in your family, and I like your idea for your own Haversack....looking forward to seeing pics of your progress on that.
Msbow - those are string keepers pictured above.
Nice work
Msbow, I believe those are broadhead sheaths.
Contrata Great work I like them

Now we got him covered!
Thanks, everyone. It's been a good way for me to keep the cabin fever at bay!
Nice looking items. Going to start making some leather things also. Good job.
I need a new tip protector for my longbow. I've got some buckskin, but it's too light. I'll have to see if I can come up with something heavier to use.

Chuck leather work kind of gets to be an addiction, don't it brother. Your work looks real nice. I'll bet your grandkids will really enjoy those. Its a relaxing hobby for me. Here's something you can also make with those smaller pieces. (http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z374/rgsines/IMG_2942%20253x450_zpszt3gj8y7.jpg)
I like to make bow stringers and custom tabs.
You guys could probably tell me why I need to know. I've gotten a leatherman tool I need to make a sheath for as well as I want to put together a knife/file/stone set like Fred Bear used to sell. What size/weight leather would a fella want to use for such a endeavor? Thanks ;)
Those pocket quivers would be a perfect project.
Just checked with Tandy's, and they have the craftsman shoulders back on sale for $30. I hope they have some left when get to town next Saturday.
cmh,
I made one for my Leatherman out of the 6-7 oz leather I had on hand. Seemed just about the right weight to me. I haven't finished it yet. Not entirely happy with some of the design decisions I made, but I know how I'll do the next one.
You might want to start a new topic with your question. I'm sure one of the experts will get you going on your project.
Thank you Chuck :)
Cmh, like Chuck I've made a couple knife cases out 6/7oz. leather that worked out pretty well. I think 5/6oz. would also be alright. I don't think I would go lighter than that, but I'm no expert still learning myself. This one's out of 6/7oz. tried 7/8oz.. I t was just too stiff to make the bends

This is what I did for my leatherman:

(http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii185/finnish-archer/ArcheryPhotos/First%20Back%20Quiver/Leatherman%20Case%20-%20Back_zpsh3wfdwb9.jpg) (http://s264.photobucket.com/user/finnish-archer/media/ArcheryPhotos/First%20Back%20Quiver/Leatherman%20Case%20-%20Back_zpsh3wfdwb9.jpg.html)
I wet the leather to form it around the leatherman. Looked pretty good. Stitched it up and trimmed it. Wasn't paying to close attention and angled the blade a bit and cut close to the stitching on the back. Should of had more material to work with in the first place. Live and learn.
Also, I cut the belt slots in the back. I should have stitched on a belt loop.
Didn't think I'd show this off to anyone, but it is a good example of what not to do......
Thank you gentlemen.... Gives me ideas of what to look for and what I want to do. Thanks a lot ;)
Nice work. Are you machine stitching or hand stitching? If machine, what brand do you use. Thanks, Mike
Lone Hunter,
I'm just hand stitching. I need to get a stitch groover to make things look better, and maybe try the two-needle method of stitching.
Dang!!thats good looking hand stitching. I have big ideas right now and little knowledge so am trying to learn from others. Thanks for your time. Mike
Same here..... If mine comes out anywhere near that nice I'll be happy :)
