If you were a young bowhunter like myself growing up in the mid sixties you probably got your hands on every Bow & Arrow Magazine or Archery World and read them cover to cover.
An era when recurves and Cedar shafts ruled the bowhunting world. Those ads of "new" bows and broadheads had us working those summer jobs even harder so we could afford one. After seeing the recent thread showing an old pic of Doug Kittredge, thought I'd post some questions here and bring back some memories.
1. Larry Bamford & Phil Grable designed what T/D recurve bow?
2. Late 60's to early 70's, this bowhunter field tested out many recurves and his reviews appeared in Bow&Arrow Magazine. Who is he?
3. In Africa, Bob Swinehart also used this bow and broadhead to take a few animals along with the Hill bow and head. What bow and what head?
4. Bill Pyle started what Bow Company?
5. Name the broadhead Jim Dougherty designed?
6. ** Extra Points for this one ** Name the male and female bowhunter who accompanied Jim Dougherty on many hunts, especially on Catalina Island?
7. What bowhunter was an advocate of gluing razor blades to his broadheads?
8. Which bow company sold recurves named Nitro, Super Nitro and Cheetah?
9. Kaibab, Ocala, Super Necedah were recurves built by what bowyer and sold by what company?
10. Name the 2 bowhunters who floated down the Moose John with Jay Massey?
11. Bighorn Bow Co...who was Fred Asbell's partner?
12. You could buy Forgewoods in 3 categories. Name them?
I'll let this run for a few days, then return with the answers. Enjoy.....Don't disappoint me Charlie... :campfire: :dunno:
I must not be old, I think I only know a couple of answers.........
David
Yes Joe you are getting old, like myself.A flood of memories come bouncing back as I read your questions.I know most ,only my feeble memory stops me from all the answers,Do you want me to post or should I let some of the younger guys and gals ponder further.
I must be pretty old as I can recall the answers to several of the questions. I even had a SST 2000 recurve, I loved that bow unfortunately is was stolen.
#7 could be Cal Coziah, I just read his book Bucks, Bows and Campfires and he did glue razor blades to his broadheads... He was from Soda Springs Idaho and he killed some monster mule deer. His book was copyrighted back in 1980.
I used to get the Bow Hut catalog, brings back memories. It was much more difficult learning about traditional archery back in the 60's and 70's than it is now in the age of the internet, You Tube and great sites like Trad Gang. A big resource for me was the Archer's Bible.
1. A senior moment and I actually had one back in the mid 60's

Don't want to spoil it so I'll hold off. I do have an Archery 2000 SST hanging on my bow rack. Didn't care for it much.
Some are guesses and some I stole from Toejammer :D ...but all brain-teasers for sure.

I'm in my early 30's but I thought I would know more than I did. I think I could only answer #2, 9 and 10 with absolute certainty. I should know the Swineheart question, Sagitarius is my all time favourite book, just haven't picked it up in a while.
I'm young enough that reading those questions are like reading a foreign language

KP - Knows all, sees all, tells all, stops at nothing!
Kelly is my go-to for bowhunting trivia....I learned a long time ago I don't need to know it all...just know a guy that does!
:)
Just to Add,No.3 Bob used a 75# Pearson Palomino and the large deadheads.Kelly hit it all right on.
I owned two st2000 recurves, gave one away on the other site as a Christmas present. Jack Howards broadhead was known as the "Lil Shaver"
nice Kelly :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
BTW Lil shavers were yet another head, not by Howard.
ChuckC
Great job Kelly. I was under the impression Jim Daughtery was involved in the 003 broadhead
Great memory Kelly. I beleive the tall basket ball player was Darrell Imhoff or something like that.

Doug Kittridge was also an champion of the razor blades on broadheads used to have instructions on how to do them in his catalog.
Jim Dougherty also used to test various bows, if memory serves correctly, mostly on Catalina Island. I still have quite a few of those old magazines.
Heck, I was old when that stuff happened.. :biglaugh:
This is cool I love learning about this type stuff.
Very cool!

I guess I just would make everyone feel old...
I wasn't a thought back then and it would be 31 years before I really got into archery.
I did know 2 answers though ;)
Joe,
Your question #1 asked what company those two guys started...and the real answer is___________.
My friends and I glued Schick injector blades to our Razorheads because of Jack Howard. It worked.
I never was a detail kind of guy and now in my older years and my memory lapses I'm just glad I remember when it's time to eat.....lol
Plus my philosophy has always been to never waste effort on memorizing stuff but to keep track of where the right reference for the subject can be found.
God bless,Mudd

Ron, you aren't old enough to be an antique, but you are old enough to be collectable. :)
Just curious, where is this Bill Pyle and Staghorn Archery from? Thanks, Danny Pyle.
