Any of you guys know who this young fellow is. I use to really enjoy looking through his catalog in days gone by. And he had a special name for his catalog. Do any one know how he is doing these days?

Doug Kittredge and was it the "bow hut" ??????
Hey John, you are quick to the draw. You have the name right, and the store was the Bow hut, but that is not the name of the catalog(LOL).
Tony
Yup, Doug I can't recall the names but can't wait to hear them again. That was a couple years ago.
ChuckC
Just looked it up and BAM ! yup, I remember that name (catalog). I will let someone who REMEMBERS answer it.
ChuckC
Seems the picture was in the Bowhunters Digest. May be wrong. Long time ago. I remember his quote "small game is big game when you hunt with a bow".
Hey guys let your memory do the search, and not the internet(LOL). I am sure someone will know and remember the name of the catalog. I wish I had kept one of those catalogs.

Hey Joe that is it. The Archer's Bible.
Tony
Fred Bear's books were also called "Archer's Bible".
I'll have to keep an eye out for that Bow Hut version.
Cool.
Just saw this thread! I remember that catalog and Doug. Damn...that makes me as old as you guys! :dunno:
AARGH...I remember it too! :banghead:
Guess that puts me in the "old guy" club as well.
I posted a thread last week and showed pics of Charlie Lamb and I in the catalog....now that's old!
I may have that catalog at home, gotta look for it tonight when I get home from work. Cool stuff.
Used to get one delivered every year when I was in my teens. I couldn't wait to find a quiet place to read every page ...several times.
Do any of you fellows remember who was the Bow Hut Store Manager for MR. Kittredge?
Tony
Bill Krenz ???
Yes John, you are once again correct(LOL), it was Bill Krenz, who is now deceased.
Tony
Yep, Bill was manager for Doug for a while when he was just getting started in the biz. It's one of Bill's photos that graces the cover of the above catalog picture. A good friend gone too soon.
Let's take the trivia a little farther. What bow hides under those bow socks? What sight?
I'll guess a Howard Gamemaster....
I think you have me there Charlie. I was thinking a Shakespere, or Ben Pearson bow. I don't know about the sight.
Tony
I let it ride a while.
I seem to remember that he sold Jack Howard bows, but I don't think that the one in the pic is a Gamemaster.
Anybody remember where the Bow Hut was?
I think the Bow Hut started out in Pasadena California.
Tony
Mammoth Lakes....
Mammoth Lakes and the bow is a Gamemaster (the original 66" model).
I think it was in Pasadena in the early days. California has always been a hot bed of archery and bowhunting.
Thanks Charlie.
I was guessing either a Tice & Watts or Howard but the bow length and the deep hooks favored Jack's bow.
Another trivia. Who was the great Bowhunter, that Doug Kittredge and he had mutual respect for each other's knowledge and abilities , but they did not agree on what was the best bow design in their day?
Tony
Dougherty...Doug and Tom Jennings put a book out on How to build bows until Tom started making them with wheels. Doug was good friends with Harold Groves but Harold wasn't about to change the Spitfire.
I know Jack Howard wouldn't bend...so I'll stay with Jim Dougherty since Jim worked for Pearson and designed the Maurader T/D.
Hey Joe, you mentioned some great guys, but its neither one of them. I'll let this ride and see if anyone comes up with the name of the Bowhunter. I will then post a pic of them. Thanks.
Tony
That would have been Howard Hill, Tony. There dual articles printed in "Bow and Arrow" magazine one by each.
If I remember right Doug's piece was a "fresh" article while Howards was comprised of previously printed stuff.
That is a Jack Howard Gamemaster. I have a few brochures from Doug with this and other photos that show the Gamemaster that he always shot. He used it to bag what, at the time, was the record elk It was in Arizona. I and I am sure others bought lots of stuff from him back in the day.

Me too.
The article that Charlie speaks of "longbow vs recurve" was also in the Archer's Digest. Don't know the year but the one with Jim Dougherty on the cover. It is the article that gave me this Hill style bow disease.
Hey Charlie Lamb you hit the nail on the head. It was the great Howard Hill. Thanks.

Just looked at it and Gordon is correct. It is the 1971 copyright edition edited by Jack Lewis.
This is a great thread. In a few days I'm going to start a Trivia Thread...should bring back some more great memories.
This truly is a great thread. Being a history buff, I love to learn about the history of what I'm into, even though I do remember much of this!! I'm still a kid!!!
Ok, now I'm feeling old too.
I remember buying a dozen Micro-Flytes from Doug.
Doug's Gamemaster was outfitted with a Merrill Heartshot 4 pin sight. A standard of the day. I've never used a sight, but I have one of those in my tackle box.
