I have a 45 day break from school coming up in about a month and during that time I would like to build my own bow. I have no bow making experience and would like to find someone in Ohio that can walk me through step by step how to do this. I will pay for all supplies and even for the time you take out of your day to help me out. This is something I have been thinking about doing for awhile. Do you know anyone in Ohio, or in the Dayton area, that would be willing to work with me? Thanks.

Hi Links,
Are you looking to make a selfbow, wood laminate bow or a fiberglass backed and bellied bow?
Hopefully, someone from Ohio will chime in here and be able to help you out. Making a bow of any kind is fun, and 100% doable. Good luck with your project.
Stan
If you're looking to make a selfbow there's a few guys in Ohio that have made one or two. ;)
If I can find someone that has been making a certain type of bow for awhile and is pretty good at that type, I'll make what they make. I figure they will give the best advice on a bow they have experience with. I own an old Bear recurve right now, just have always wanted to make my own bow.

Links, i sent you a PM.

I am "hosting" a bowhunt/bowmaking get together in late October in Southern Indiana about 2.5 hours from you. It won't be hardcore bowmaking but there will be people around to help. Here is a website: Southern IN Bowhunt/Bowbee (http://residents.bowhunting.net/sticknstring/2007JWBowhunt.html)
Excellant post links. I am from Iowa and hoping to do just the same this winter. Would really love that experience of making my own bow. Just would appreciate "the touch of a masters hand" to get me going.
I'm not real close to you but if you can't find anyone else closer I probably can help you with a osage selfbow. I'm actually about 20 minutes east of KI. To give you an idea.
There should be someone closer though.
Thanks for the replies. I did find someone that lives in my town. An Osage board and some bamboo backing has been ordered. The work is scheduled to start the last weekend of this month. I am so pumped. Just to give you an idea, it's going to be a Howard Hill style bow (can't afford a real HH yet) that will be 68" and 60# at 28". I'll post pics when I'm done.
