Title: Single bevel sharpener?
Post by: coyote30 on February 22, 2015, 10:57:00 PM
Is the grizzly stik cc sharpener 3 rivers sells any good? I'm using a file and regular stones right now to sharpen my grizzly's but looking for a faster more consistent way to sharpen these heads. Took my forever to sharpen one today and it shaves a little hair but would like them a bit sharper. Yes i'm picky when it comes to sharpness and this is my first try at sharpening a single bevel head. Thanks in advance for any input.

I've had good luck with the KME sharpener and then a final strop on leather with jewelers rouge. I can get them not only shaving sharp but scary sharp as well.

I just realized that a tool for sharpening ice auger blades should work great on single bevel broadheads

Yote, they are made for touch up in the field. They work good for that, but are not designed for initial sharpening.
Get the KME set up, you will never be disappointed.

The KME is the best jig I have used.  I am certain there are others.  I think it the best for me because of its almost unlimited adjustability.

There have been a couple recent threads here about getting single bevels sharp.  I think one was specific for a certain head, but it was very informative.

There's a great single bevel sharpener for the Helix broadhead, sharpens any single bevel head for that matter. Just pull the head gently through, good for right or left bevels.

Check out Strickland archery, click on the Helix head....page two.

Thanks guys. It looks like the kme is the favorite, i have been looking at the kme but wasn't sure if it was good enough to justify the price. Sounds like it is.

I have nothing against sharpening with the help of power tools but it seems the potential for a nasty cut would be a lot higher using those wheels on a grinder.

I don't know if your referring to the knife or the BH sharpener. I have the knife and it was taking forever. I talked to Ron and he suggested the XX course diamond stone. WOW is all I can say. Seriously took my time from 20-30 minutes a head to 5 minutes a head. I have never got a BH as sharp as I can now. Looking forward to using single bevel this spring and fall.

KME knows what they are doing.  Notice how their broadhead jig is canted to so the bevel angle on the entire blade is consistent.  If you use a straight clamp, the bevel angle changes from the bottom of the broad head to the sharp.  Ron knows what he is doing.

I actually took KME's clamp and used it to build a jig for my Tormek.

I own the KME knife sharpener and the broadhead sharpener and both are amazing. These days I use the broadhead sharpener on all broadheads.

This is basically how I do mine:

Keep in mind, that was before Zipper bought and made improvements to the Grizzly.Using the KME,removes the least amount of metal to get the job done, especially when it comes to resharpening.

I like the looks of the kme, are the diamond stones in the kit good? Those mirror finish bevels are impressive!

KME for me as well. It takes a lot of "guess" work out of it. Holds the broadhead at the correct angle. I haven't been disappointed yet. I do keep a Jewelstick (3river) type sharpener in my pack for touching up afield if I need too. Good luck >>>----->
