Looking for a older recurve 45-48# @ 29"
wondering what would be the most powerful...
r wing hunter,kod hunter,groves,herters,martin mamba,etc...
and do you have one for sale???
Has to be the 1962 Kodiak-although others will have their favs as well; 1962 Kodiaks were about as good as it got. Mine are not for sale.
Haad a 62 inch Martin hunter that had real good performance.
TTT
I like the way the old redwing hunters cast an arrow.
I have an Herters Sitka 62" 50@28, puts them out pretty quick.
I've shot Groves for over 30 years and think that they were never marketed properly but they are great shooters. The 56" Magnum was the best shooter, IMO, but with a 29" draw it could be a problem. Before the Groves I had a Red Wing Hunter....great bow in its day.
Bear Super Kodiak or Bear magnesium-risered TD.
Can't go wrong with a good ole' Grizzly. The older Kodiaks ('65 back) are real thumpers if they are in your $$ range.
I really like the Damon Howatt Hunters as well. They are hammers.
Super Diablo, Martin Hi-Speed, Groves, Martin Hunter, Browning Wasp was pretty quick. Mambas are also very quick, Martin Sabre was one of fastest production bows made, Dan Quillan Canebrake and Patriot.. Theres a bunch of them out there that will hold their own.In all honesty none of the Bear bows Ive owned were all that quick but they were very, very quiet and easy to shoot.
Groves Spitfire magnum,Damon Howatt Super Diablo and Kodiak Hunters early 60's .Have all 3 and they are great shooters!
Had an old Red Wing Hunter (not AMF, Headski)55#. It really had some punch!
My Groves screams...and my 1961 Kodiak is a thumper...very different then the late 50's...the length is the same, the limb design similar, but the 1961/62 riser is much longer.
Both great shooters that really deliver an arrow.
Groves first and then I'd rate the Pearson Marauder T/D second.
I shot an old Savage Death Master (i believe was the name) it was a rocket. I've had a couple canebreaks that shot real hard.
To your 2nd question, I don't have one for sale.
Wing Thunderbird.
ttt
red wing hunter 52'' 50 lb
I shot an aluminum handled Groves takedown once and it was a very impressive bow.
Tice & watts Recurve and Redwing Hunter, were two of the fastest 'curves ever made!
I think of the production bows you can't beat the Speed of the Howatt Hunter, Super D and Hispeed. I have had them all. I think the Bear, wing and Pearson bows were a little slower at the same weight.
I go along with the Wing Thunderbird; it was a 'thumper'...............Shick
In that weight range with that drawlength it would seem a Groves with the broadhead cut out in the riser or a 58" Kodiak.
Santa brought my first bow back in the early 70's it was a Green 60" Kodiak Hunter 45X which actually is 48#@28". I have harvested lots of game big and small with that bow. I have since passed it on to my son and found a mint Green Hunter which is 58#@28". I have hunted with and own many Top of the line bows, but still alway seem to go back to the K Hunters.
The Saber was one of the fastest bows Martin Archery made. If you get a chance, shoot one and see!
I owned a early 70's Browning Nomad that was the quickest older bow I have evr shot, it was as quick as most today. Shawn
I have a Red Wing that would shoot with most bows out there if you could use modern strings on it.It is the hardest bow to string ever built however. :)
Any recurve with a big heavy riser hits hard when you swing it right.. :p
