A few threads lately about string trackers and such. Since I couldn't find the one I used 25 yrs ago with my wheel bow, I decided to make one. Just a few simple parts. I had a box full of plastic containers with attached lids. Elec. tape. An L-bracket and a piece of pipe insulation.

Put insulation under L-bracket to protect bow. Secured with elec. tape. Added container with tape also.

Carved 1" string hole in cap.

Ordered rolls of string, should be here in a couple days. Can't wait to try it.
Now that's what I'm talking about!! I was wanting to see how it was gonna turn out and there it is. You did a good job on it Brian. Let me know how it shoots when you get your string.

Thanks guys. Not so fancy as the one Chad Orde made, but it should do...and cost me almost nothing but the string.
I should have about 3/4" x 1/4" extra room inside, so I put some foam at the bottom so the string doesn't rattle around.

I'm told the roll is 2 1/2 x 1 3/8. The container is 3 1/4 x 1 5/8. Should fit just right. May have to shim it just a tad at most, and already put a piece of foam in bottom of container that can be adjusted as needed.

Testing will tell, just make sure that cap won't come off on the shot. Any way you could build it rear load?

The cap snaps on pretty tight, but it was a concern. If I change the L-bracket to a straight bracket, I could load from rear. That was my original plan. If the string comes out so easily, I don't think it will be a problem. Still waiting on string.

Too Many. . How did it work ? BTW, why change the bracket, just turn it so the L faces away from the canister.

It works fine at 13 yards in the basement. Don't notice too much drag, but it's kinda noisy. I can't wait to try it on turkey in a few weeks.
There's not enough room to turn the L. The string seems to stay in place long enough to take a few shots, so I think it will be fine.
when you say its loud, what is the noise your referring to? the string spool rattling inside the canister?
It looks great glad its seeming to work ok!
Not the spool rattling, just the string making noise to the target, or maybe coming off the spool. I don't think turkeys will care, deer may duck.

We made the same thing back in the 70s by using a pill bottle. I just taped it to the bow . The string was bought from an electrical supply place its used to shoot wires through conduit . The string has to come out the center of the spool .We used them for bear hunting .
