Title: The nerve of some bears.
Post by: Jerry Jeffer on October 03, 2007, 05:50:00 PM
I've been hunting pretty hard the past few days. So I'm just getting to posting this one. Two days ago I get a nice 10 yard shot on a doe. I put some trauma on her with a shot through both lungs.  I'm stoked! The doe runs down the ridge into the swamp. Great, shorter drag for me since I'm going that way. Well, unknown to me, Mr. Black Bear was lounging in the swamp. Apparently as the life drained out of the doe, she did her cartwheel off death right into the lap of Mr. Bear. When I show up to claim my deer, Mr. Bear has other ideas. He picks up the doe by the neck and heads for his deep woods hide out at high speed. Hope he doesn't plan on making a habit of this. I've got my permit. Just wait till Thanksgiving Mr. Bear   :readit:

Wow!! Sorry you didn't get the doe, but what an opportunity to actually see, and have that situation happen to you.

Not too many people can write that one down in their books.

It's been known to happen around here with elk and deer. Trouble is, it's usually a Griz and you can't do alot about it without getting your backside handed to you. Ain't no tags for them either....yet.

I lost a bow kill to yotes once. But a bear? I think I would let the bear have it. Atleast ya made a clean kill. That and seeing a bear made for a good day in some aspects. Good luck next time. And let me know when ya wanna chase bunnies.

Swamp dogs or coyote have taken my a few of my bow kills if I dont find them right away the next morning half the time I have given back to the land and the swamp dogs and the birds get a good meal so it balances out the also have to eat as do the bears

Similar thing happened to my bro-in-law a couple of years ago. He decided to let the bear have it.

Jerry I hunted opening day last Saturday Zone 4 Old Mine Road. Settled in had two hunters follow up my bright eyes trail at almost 6:00.Hit them with the beam they left. 9:30 heard a commotion coming in behind me looked down had two 40# cubs playing under my tree. Momma beds down 5 yards away sticks her nose in the air turns around and looks right at me . we stared down she got up and left cubs in tow. First time on opening day I didn't see a tail. When you coming to Jersey?
