Who is shooting them and what are your thoughts? I have a 66" coming next week but won't be shooting it for a while until my elbow heals. Feel free to post some pictures to.
Thanks,
Big ED

But with out the stink.........I had one for about a year, great bow, fit and finish was excellent. The bow had great cast and in hindsight I should have never sold it. Mine was 43# @ 28" if I remember.
Surprisingly quick and the quietest bow ever...i mean ever :)
I love mine...very stable and quick. A real pleasure to shoot. Please post pics when you get yours.
Loved the one I had - sold it only because I was ready to move up in weight.
Never shot a D bow but I have a Whip. I've been thinking about getting one of Dan's Super D's. How are they different from a Whip?
As quiet as any Hill, but a bit quicker. Excellent cast for a mild r/d longbow. Very slender and handy for a 66"er. Very fun and easy to shoot. Dan does not build a model bow that is not great.
PS/ how the Whip differs:
Whip is a quicker bow and it is most easily noticed shooting the same arrow out of both bows.
Super D is quieter and has a bit more of a pulse felt in the hand when shot.
Whip riser has more mass and larger dimension. I have some pics somewhere comparing the two side by side.
I had one and loved it. They shoot great! My left and right arrows were virtually eliminated with it. I shot that bow for a couple years and really liked the shooting characteristics. It was my go to bow. I got antsy for something new and sold it. To this day, I miss that bow. I will likely own another some day.
I have one and love it. Here are some pictures- follow link. http://www.traditionalarcherysociety.com/post/montana-bows-asl-7224512
It is a superb shooting, easy handling bow. So light in the hand too!
Drove to Dan's shop today and had an awesome visit! My buddy picked up a new Chinook. Man that is a nice recurve! Never read a bad word about one and I now know why.
You will find the bow extremely well-mannered and very quick for a "D Bow". The "hand-shock" will be virtually non-existant, much more like feeling your pulse than any thump and I have shot wood arrows from 9 to 1 to over 12 to 1 through mine. It will be beautifully crafted of beautiful woods and even quieter than it is fast. There is nothing not to like.
I have one and it is a great bow and is for sale only because the grip is too small to me.
What are the specs on yours that you are selling?

Thanks a little to stout for me!
I can't imagine a bow quieter than a whip!!! I may have to drive out and check that one out Ed. Looking forward to pics.
Man, I've been looking into getting a D shaped bow for awhile now. I've shot one of Tim's whips and loved how it shot and felt, so I'm guessing I would love Dan's D shaped bow too. That one of the classifieds is really tempting me. Tim just talked me down from my 71lbs limbs to 54lbs limbs on my silvertip, surely 61 lbs would be ok right?
Just got a "new to me" Super D a few weeks ago. Been wanting to try an ASL for a long time and when this one became available, I jumped. So glad I did! This bow shoots absolutely amazing. Extremely accurate, shock free and as has already been described above, extremely quiet and surprisingly speedy. The grip is small but that is what I wanted cause my hands are on the small side. All the best to you Ed with your Super D. Here are the specs on mine.
62 inches 50# @ 27
Black Glass - back and belly
All Black Linen Micarta Riser
1 Lam of Dirty Boo on the compression side
2 Lams of Heat treated Boo in the core
2 lams of Other wood (looks like walnut but not sure) in between the core Boo.
This "Blacked Out" Super D is Amazing! Here are some pics.
First unbraced - You can see the backset

What length bow for 30" draw? Can't find any reference on the Tolke site.
My DL is only 26.5 so the 62" Super D is no problem. For 30" - I'd bet Dan would recommend a 66" Super D. But if I were you, I'd email him or call him.
Dave, mine is 66" let me know if you want to test run it. I won't be shooting it for a while, bad elbow. It is 42# at 30"

Thanks Ed, but that one is light for me. I have heck with light draw bows. I bought a Hill, tried to shoot it bent arm shortened up draw, UGLY!!! Tried today shooting the bow at my natural long draw , still UGLY! The Hill is for sale.
I draw 30" and a 66" Super D is what I shoot. It's right in the sweet spot. You wouldn't want to go the 64".
If you can deal with the smallish grip you will love it Ed........they are great shooters.
We'll have to see how she fits!! Thank you all for the comments and keep them coming!!
Found the pic Ed! Here's the Super D I had next to a Whip I also had at the time. This pic illustrates the riser difference well.

I love my super D. I guess I have just been too busy hunting with other bows to give it the attention that it deserves. Quiet is an understatement. The newer whips are a decent amount faster, but compared to a HH style longbow, this has quite a bit more pep with normal arrow weights. I think that you will really like it. I may start hunting with that bow during the winter, when it is so quiet in the woods and the deer are a little spooky. Barely a whisper from the bow.
Not as fancy as some, but here is my Toelke super d with juniper veneers.

Just heard back from Dan, on a Sun. nite no less! 66" Super D 62 or 64" Whip for my long draw.
The 64" HS Whip for your 30" draw would be fantastic. In the speed, quietness and quality of build catagory, probably no better RD bow out there then the HS Whip.
Customer service at its best!!
I've got 2 66 inchers, one in the low 40s, one in the high 40s at my 30" draw. They are my "go to" bows for stalking. I've killed several deer and hogs with them and have found one problem with them. I pick a low spot anticipating deer to drop a little at the sound of the bow. The Super D's are so quiet, several of the deer had no reaction at all until the arrow hit them, causing low hits. Although I am joking about this being a problem, it did happen.
Thank you, can't wait!!
My 62" D has no issues with my 29" draw even though I should use a longer bow according to most. You shorter draw guys really don't need longer unless you simply prefer longer.
You 30" draw guys need 64" or more IMO.
I put an SBD string on it and made a great bow fantastic...noticeably quicker and quieter.
ttt
Here is a 66" Super D drawn to 30". A 64" would put your string angle more acute, more on the stack side I think. (http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii498/tzolkosky/Super%20D/IMG_20150128_161815_zpsmj0i4e8t.jpg)
I pull 26" and have a 62" with the riser "tweaked" for my short draw. I love my bow.
I once shot a coyote with it at 22 yards and he moved ONLY when he heard the BH hit a stalk of corn behind him. Never knew it was coming.
Such a pleasure to carry
What brace ya'll run?
awbowman, how was your riser tweaked??
DaveyCrockett, I am at 7 1/4 brace height. Dan recommends starting with 7" and he has a range of 6 3/4 to 7 3/8. At least that's what he told me for my 66" 48# @ 28 inches.
Not absolutely sure. Think he lengthened the riser a tab to get the limbs working more with my short draw. I know mine starts stacking at 28" when other 62"ers don't.
I think my brace height is about 6-5/8". If it gets any lower it develops a slight noise. Otherwise WHISPER QUIET!!
All this super D Talk is making me want one!!! Let's keep the Info flowing!!
Matt, if you were a lefty, I would send you mine to try out.
DaveyCrockett,
I was running my Super D at 7" and then started lowering it a bit and have settled right at 6 3/4" and it is perfect.
Bill-
I got my Super D it looks awesome. Very slender and light in the hand. Can't wait to shoot it!! Maybe in a few weeks I should be able.
Hey Dave I think you need one!!
can you post pics??

Hey Dave I think you need one!!
Grip is on the small size , but by far the most comfortable small grip I've felt!! I'll tell you more she I am able to shoot it.
Ed, looking forward to a full report. I've pretty much filled my bucket list with fine bows but the Super D is one of the last ones that keeps calling me.
:archer2:
double post
Mike,
You want me to send you mine to test drive? I won't be able to shoot for at least a couple weeks.
Let me know,
Big Ed
Mine should be coming this week! :bigsmyl: :archer:
I decided I'm going to try and shoot woodies out of this bow. Should just add to the experience. I can't wait!!!

I got my Super D today! Strung it up and was very impressed with the feel and then how fast it shoots! This is my first D shaped bow that fits me so I'm not a seasoned archer with D shaped bows. I can tell you I was expecting a slower arrow for sure. The bow is a pleasure to shoot. Like everybody has been saying it's super quite, very little hand shock, but I'm use to a SilverTip recurve that has no hand shock. Once I got use to the grip it was hitting where I was looking. I don't seem to have the left and right flyers which is cool. The only thing I'm having trouble with, and it's not necessarily the bow, is I'm having feather cut on my bow hand. I shoot 3 five inch left wing feathers. I thought maybe it's something I'm doing and is easily fixed. If you have any thoughts or tips please let me know! Over I'm loving this bow, but like I told my wife I don't now if it's like buying gold clubs. When they are new your confidence is up and it's seems like you can't miss haha. This is my first "new" bow in years. So far it's a pleasure to shoot.

Toelke bows are hard to beat. Glad you're enjoying it.
You might try to flip your arrow 180 degrees so the cock feather is in. Shouldn't affect arrow flight and fletchings should clear your hand. Worth a shot. :archer2:
I shoot a Super D religiously and have never had a feather hitting the hand issue. What is your set up. Poundage, brace, nock height, arrow length, spine, point weight etc
The grip on your Super D is different from your recurve, your hand should be a straight extension of your forearm. The draw weight should be evenly distributed along the heel of your hand. I grip mine firmly enough that I have control of the bow after the shot. Make sure you don't grip the bow so high that the skin on top your index finger is above the shelf.
Snakebit40, whenever I start having that problem it is usually my fingers on the string. For some reason I will not keep the finger under the arrow up against it, so when I release the nock slides down the string a little and comes at my hand nock low. Since the arrow is in paradox, the fletchings are over my hand and the edge of the bow. The low fletching cuts my hand.
Take the sloppiness out of my string hand and no more cut bow hand. May be different for you.
Put a nock above and below on the string and your arrow won't slide on the string. That's an easy fix. I always double nock my string and get great consistent flight. like Jim said too, make sure the force of the bow is straight through your forearm from the hand. Avoid holding with the upper web of the hand.
I really appreciate all the help guys! I'm in the process of getting a perfectly turned arrow for the bow. The arrows I've been shooting was just what I had laying around, I was to anxious to shoot it. So I'm very close to getting a perfect bare shaft and I'll keep you posted what happens with everything once I do.
That being said, I'm going to double up on my nocking point, and I did notice a difference with feather cut when I had a loose string hand. So I think with all this tomorrow I'll be shooting one sweet bow pain free. Thanks again for your help!
