I recently met Darren (aka Hackbow) a couple of months back when he responded to the thread about hog hunting in east tx. He's the kind of guy you feel like you've known for years as soon as you meet him. We've met up a couple of times trying to get into hogs with no luck, still to many squirrel and rifle hunters running around. Well, in one of our conversations I mentioned to Darren that I've built a couple of self bows in the past and have been doing glass more recently. I told him that I've never worked with Osage and one of my goals was to do a totally primitive setup and harvest deer or hogs with it. We met up again today to do some looking around and as soon as we got there he walked up to me and hands me an Osage stave!!!! Looks like I got my start on a primitive setup! What a wonderful act of kindness! I just hope I can do my part. I've got a couple of glass bows to do first though. Thank you Darren!!!!! Ill post a pic tomorrow.

That's just Hackbow(Darren).
He's been doing stuff like this for a long time.
A great example for all of us.

I believe Darren said this was cut in 2002. I'll definately be hitting up the all wood guys for advice when I do get to start on this one!

You are welcome Randy, my pleasure. But before anyone thinks I'm that nice of a guy, you must understand that shortly after I responded to his thread on hunting hogs in East TX, Randy invited me to hunt with him prior to the group hunt and even took me to one of his leases. One of the most rewarding things about being involved in trad archery is having the opportunity to spend time with quality people. I've got another new friend because of a shared love of this sport and a great internet forum.
The osage Randy has now is an inner split from a tree that John Scifres and I cut while standing in a swamp many years ago. After he knocks out a bow with this stave, I've got a log split that I want us to make sister bows with.
I guess Darren is ok.. :)
How ya doing, Bud?
