Why would some one do such a thing?
Why would anyone steal anything?
Had a friend that someone stole a bunch of stands from his private property ! There a bunch of a holes out there !
Man, that sucks. I had someone steal a ladder stand on some private property a few years back. I was  for sure.
Idk what possess people to steal others things. I hope whoever stole it never gets another animal harvested for the rest of their days.
My neighbor had his stand stolen. He went to the end of the road where the outlaws live and offered a $45 reward if they could "find" it. Told them he might have just forgot where he hung it. Less than an hour and they "found" it for him. Lucky man to have such good neighbors.
Unfortunately not everyone has ethics, I have had a few stolen on public land. Now I mostly use my climber or remove my sticks. Some day they will pay for what they do.
On our local bowhunting site in MD it is a common occurrence sadly.
I've lost several lock on's where i had pulled the ladders on, the person had to find a way up the tree, cut the cable and steal it , I even have my name and address engraved in them , I've lost 2 in the past 2 years and probably 5-6 over all , damn thieves, leaning more towards a climber for this reason
Ground blinds from natural material make it rough to steal as well. Have "misplaced" a few things while hunting on Government land in the past.
Had apld lock on stand stolen that my Dad made a few years back. It was huge and weighed about 60lbs. Had to use arope and pulley to hang it. We made ladder sticks before they came out useing 2x4s and 2x2s. They stole the whole thang. Dad quit using the ladder and started use 20penny nails for steps he would make patterns up the tree with it so you just couldn't climb straight up. No wonder he didn't have a stand stolen.
Oh yeah the jerks who stole my stand was nice enough to leave a pair of high dollar bolt cutters leaning against the tree for me.
It is sad and unfortunately common. Ive had several stands stolen over the years. It can be as frustrating as anything I have encountered hunting. It all comes down to respect. The thing I have noticed more and more lately is the complete absence of respect among sportsmen. Stealing trespassing etc etc. I havent had any misfortune as far as thieving lately but I sure can relate to those of you venting your frustrations here. Rise above my friends. Move forward. Hunt harder and know your always a step ahead of them regardless.

You are very polite .
Cary in and Cary out. I personally cannot afford to have stands stolen. I wouldn't be able to sleep if i left one overnight.
had my first one stolen EVER in all my years of hunting last year.....
Ive had several cams stolen too. People only steal when they get the chance, and only lie when their lips move.
happens everywhere I had 3 stolen so far buddy had his first stolen last year.
always lock with the biggest chain and good quality cables around every ladder section remove the bottom two or thee screw in steps if you use those(they screw back in the same holes a lot easier than the 1st time), for cameras put them across from the stand as high as possible in another tree use an old ladder section you can hide somewhere set it so the picture captures the base of your tree along with the deer run and not your stand so you don't keep setting it off when your in your stand,, whoever goes up and down that tree will,,,,,, do not put your cameras near the base of your trees anymore or it will get stolen 1 because someone wants it or 2 because it just snapped a pic of someone who doesn't want their picture on it so they will take it and maybe destroy it.
Haven't lost any stands but did have m yblind stolen off private land. If you want to keep it just make it too miserable for them to make the effort to steal it.
Brother Gene and I probably hold some kind of record for this abuse. In 2005-2006 we had a total of 33 treestands stolen. It was about 50/50 with ladders and hang-ons. And all were chained and padlocked to the trees. Some were big enough and remote enough they had to use a four wheeler and/or more than one guy. That takes guts knowing we could have heard them and/or showed up at any time. I went to the sheriff's office and to my surprise he said they knew who stole them. Said it was two young guys who stole treestands, took them to a neighboring state and sold them for drug money. I told him I could prove they were ours as I had them secretly marked. Then I asked about the fact they took stolen property across s state line being a felony, etc. He said they didn't have time for that stuff. Pretty discouraging.
Pretty discouraging,Barry, that cop couldn't be bothered with doing his job.
I've had enough of my stands stolen that I only hunt from the ground and use a climber that goes out with me everytime.I think of all the stands, blinds, trailcams etc. I've stumbled across over the years and never once thought of taking. It's about respect and some folks have none.
I hate thieves!
Sorry this happened to you.

I've been lucky so far hunting public land but realize it could happen anytime. Use mostly ladder stands and carry them in when no one is around; usually between 1 to 1.5 miles off the beaten path. Seldom spend more than $75.00 on stands for fear of loss. :campfire:
I've had a few stolen myself but living in New York I kind of expect it. What really ticks me off is when they cut your strap hoping you will hurt yourself. It's happen twice to me and I wish I could find out who did it.
I don't know what you guys are thinking, hunters are the most honorable people in the world, "peal my cold dead fingers from my" and all of that type of people. However, there must be a real plywood shortage, because I cannot leave a Torges seat behind anywhere and it disappears. Yet considering how many have disappeared, you would think I would catch someone with one of them somewhere.
Karma, They will get what's coming to them in time!
I had 3 lone wolf climbing sticks, a lock on stand, my bow hanger and safety belt stolen a couple of years back off of my buddies private property. It is a shame some people have no honor especially in the field. Bunch of clowns out there!
Lost my first one this year. Early snow tipped the tree over. Took the one section of ladder attached to the tree after a hunt on afternoon. Planned on getting the stand after the season closed. Someone else saved me the trouble. Great time to replace it. I bought two for the price of one on after season close out sale online at Dicks. Ordered one at time, free shipping. Started a cart, left it for a day or two to decide and they offered me an additional 10%.
So far I have been luck with stands. But I have had two cameras stolen and one broken in the last year.
Three this year for me. One on state two on private.
If someone would invent a fake trail-cam that would pepper-bomb a thief when he opened the door...I would be all-in on that.
Three of four years a go I had a crappy loc-on hung in a hot spot and some goober took my stand and locked in the cab of his truck,,, his truck still parked on the property. My climbing sticks, also junk, were left on the tree. Not wanting to break up the set and as his truck was locked, I had only one way of giving him my climbing sticks. I am not sure but those windows looked far more expensive than my setup.
Can't help but think part of it could be antis .
Can't have you harming defenseless Bamby . :nono:

Kevin, now that is a great idea--don't publicize it, invent it and patent it and you'll be set for life! :biglaugh: The only stand I ever had stolen actually may have been a favor to me--it was a Baker climber. I bet a bunch of guys here remember those--and the famous rash you got when they slipped and fell a few feet while you were hugging the tree to climb.
Bill " Wrong way Bill"
Sad to hear my friend, Can I say I hate thieves.
Leave a Booby trap for them and guess who would get in trouble....

:clapper:
It was my favorite climber. Not 300 yards from my house. I don't even remember what brand name it was to try to get another.
Mike, be glad you don't need a stand to hunt beaver.
sometimes it's a neighbor that don't want you to shoot "their" deer. Usually it's more profitable to steal a stand than to destroy it. It's too bad but I seen both.
One of the reasons I like a climbing stand. Tough to steal it with me sitting in it
Guy here in Florida had 4 ladder stands stolen from his club. He took a hack saw and went almost through the top step of another. When he went back the following weekend he said it looked like a murder scene. Needless to say he hasn't had anymore stands disappear!
I've had several stands stolen myself. My favorite one was when I walked into my spot on opening morning of Mass Bow and the only thing left was the peg I held my bow on.
The worse part of it all is the majority of the thiefs are the fair weather hunters. The ones who get their jollies ruining everyone else's season for the weeks worth of time they put in the woods a year.
I could go on and on but my blood pressure is rising already.
Happy hunting to all the real hunters out their who put there time and heart into it!!
I have a ladder stand out behind my place.
My philosophy is, that if they want to drag that 45 lbs out of the woods and up the ravine, more power to em.
But I hate the fact you were violated by some idiot.
I stole a treestand once.
It was a home made version of a Loc-On treestand and a very nice stand. The "wooden" seat sat a little higher than an original loc-on and it was very comfy to sit in.
It was hung on property that myself and a friend have sole permission to hunt on. I walked in to get in it one morning and the stand, screw in steps, haul rope, gone.
Later that week, I hunted another piece of property a couple miles from there and on my way out of the woods that morning, guess what I stumbled across. yep, my treestand.
So, I stole it back, screw in steps, haul rope, stand and all.
Yep, had one stolen on public this year...some bad ones out there.
Engrave your name and address in a hidden spot on your hang on stand, two or three places, even write it down on paper and slip it into a frame tube. If it's stolen check the pawn shops, if found, say nothing, but bring Johnny Law back, that way you get the stand back with noting but a glare from the shop keeper and the name of the guy who pawned it for the police. I did that with my son's Game Boy years ago.

I know of several stories where anti hunters steal and rip down treestands and in one particular location they smeared the treestands with.......well use your imagination.
