Our late season for doe and spike is over this coming Sunday and I had one tag left in my pocket. I got off work yesterday but it rained all day and into the night so I staid at the house reading and watching Howard Hill movies all day. I decided I would head out to the place I killed two does last week but stopped at my in-laws place first to see what was shaking out there. And it looked real good mucho pig sign around the tank so instead of the hour drive to the other place I would stay and hunt here this afternoon. I gathered up some cedar that had been pushed a while back and found me an old stump with a nice little u in the root section that made a comfy seat. My little make shift hide took about 5min to complete and was on a wore out trail that headed right for the tank. Had a good north wind right in my face and the sun was bright and off behind me and the temp was nice and cool. I was carrying my Kramer long bow and back quiver full of cedar arrows and wearing some new wave camo. I have been wanting to shoot a pig and just not having any luck but I know they are there I just haven't been there when they come out and play. Ah but everything feels right today the weather is great the set-up feels good and the stump shooting I did on the walk back in here was real good......

My seat and gear for the afternoon hunt....
Sam that gear looks good! That bow looks almost new! Good luck Ol' Chum! Jacques
My stump seat is only several inches tall but was very comfortable , I had several shooting Windows in my brush hide out. With my bow canted way over I could draw without any part of me or the bow exposed so now I wait. About five o'clock I see some movement and its heading my way and it ain't a hog it's a deer and its also a spike buck. And I just happen to have a tag with his name on it , what are the odds this will play out. He keeps on the trail and ends up at seven yards then stopped and looked the other the other way ( guess the odds were good ) . I lean forward pull the 65# back and let her rip and those big yellow feathers never looked so good in that bright Sun light. From my angle to the deer I was shooting up at him and I think the impact of the arrow lifted him off the ground a few inches , man that arrow hit hard. I really think I'm falling in love with Hill bows.......
Yes sir it looks just as you told me , we are getting along pretty good as you can see, Thanks again Jacques.....
Here is the trail the critters use....

And the tank they are heading for....

Come on sam, let's see that 11pt.
Like I said my shot was angled up and the arrow broke his leg and center punched his heart. I do love it when it all works out and you just know when you let that string slip that the shot is good before the arrow hits its mark. He made a short dash with not much help from either of his front legs and was down in just a matter of seconds. Have I said I'm liking this Hill stuff yet....
It took me a bit of shooting these bows to get it figured out ( still working on it also ) I just love the feel and the feeling I have while shooting them. For this shot my bow hand was no more than a foot off the ground....

Congrats, he's a good one to take out. Liked your pics & story.
Here is a pic of the Sun setting over the cabin on my last whitetail for this season , but wait I can still hunt hogs here....
I think I hear some in the woods , yep there they are.....
Long story short now I put an arrow in a nice sow about 15 minutes after I took the pics with my spike and she crossed the fence into the neighbouring property. After a call I have permission to go track her in the morning so I will be there at sunrise in the morning. The shot looks like a liver hit so I hope I find her before the coyotes do....

Congrats Sam. I gotta say, for the days gone by bowers Meigs ASLs rank at the too for me. I have a 76 lbr calling my house home right now and it's amazing
Congrats Brother... You're making me want to get a Hill. :archer:
Now, that is what I am talking about! Congrats!
It's getting light out and is 27 degrees on the porch with frost on the ground I'm finishing my coffee then off to find a stuck pig. Last time I had to leave an animal out overnight on this place I found the head hide and spinal cord and that was it. Hope this one is whole cause I do like me some pork..
I do still have a few Bear TDs and do love them also I sold off most of my bows in order to buy our new place that was much more $$$$ than I wanted to spend but it was worth it. We are deeper in the country now a mile from a paved road and love our new place but I do need another GreenStripe in my life..
,,,,,Sam,,,,
Congrats!!!
Found the sow in great condition will get some pics up later , time to start skinning deer and hog....
,,,,Sam,,,,,
Nice Sam! I see you swapped broadheads on this deer. The last doe you shot had a pretty serious entry / exit wound. Congrats!

Your on a roll sam way to go!CONGRATS BROTHER!
Congrats on the Hog Sam!
Congrats!! Great season
well done , congrats
As I said earlier I found my pig not very far across the fence on the neighbors property. In total this hog went over 500 yards she was quartered away when I shot and the arrow exited tight behind her off shoulder , shave sharp Simmons head. Just one tough hog had good blood all the way , walked right to her this morn....here is where the arrow went in....

Nice set up and congrats on your deer and hog.
Great job!
Love that last pic. Nice work.
You got me thinking Hill bow, for the first time.
Congrats Sam! I've been toying with the idea of investing in a HH bow, this isn't making it any easier lol. I'm leaving tomorrow to go to Junction TX area to hunt hogs and axis. Hope I have similar results! Congrats again!!!!
Way cool, Sam! Congrats!
Very nice, congrats on a great double!
Awesome SAM
Way to go Sam!!!
What a,great day!! Congrats!!
Great story and great pics. Hunting season has been over here for a while other than rabbits and coyotes. Ive been itching to hunt since it warmed up to 28 here.
So thanks for including us on your hunt
Tim
Tagged out??
Boy, you've had a great season! I've really enjoyed following all of your hunts! Congratulations!
Bernie
congrats again , nice hog and shot
Mighty fine  thanks for sharing, great story and pics ... Love the New Wave camo
Sam,
Which HH quiver is that is it the soft leather or the heavy Latino just curious.
Tim
I'm not sure but I would say heavy , it was a gift from my good friend Kevin Davis. It forms on my back I think well and is very comfortable and keeps my arrows from moving around and making any noise. Thanks for the kind words guys this Hill bow stuff is pretty neat......
,,,,,Sam,,,,
Congrats on your hunt. Looks like a good area for you with cover and water.
I'd say that is a pretty good day in the Texas Hill Country. Thanks for sharing.Great way to end the season.
nice job Sam ..great stories too...BEAR bows and HILL bows are real parts of bowhunting history....as you know I have a few Bears and ironically I have a Hill style bow also 65# that is a beauty and has taken two moose...have not hunted with it since...you are motivating me to take it off the shelf.....
great hunt and great story..looks like you have a fine property there....happy new year
Yes I am lucky to have this place of heaven to hunt on its only a 130ac or so but it has it all cover water and no pressure except me. I do love the old school bows and gear I think it just adds that more to the hunt for me , one of the best parts for us is a good fresh plate of venison and pork.....
