Title: String silencers
Post by: Locogear on January 15, 2015, 07:50:00 PM
Just want to thank y'all for the all the ideas in the how to sections. I made some silencers for my bow from brians topic, they turned out great!  :)  still needs to be fluffed up some but definitely makes a huge difference

Awesome!  I remember when I started doing my own silencers, nock points, and fletching arrows and stuff like that it makes it so much more fun and even more satisfying an endeavor!!

I know! I never would've imagined two balls of yarn would make me feel so accomplished lol

I can't wait to be able make everything myself, nothing more fulfilling than work by my own hands

Next, do string wraps with yarn on the ends where it touches the bow

The wraps eliminate all noise from the string contacting the limbs. Like Ninja quiet.

I like to use alot of wool yarn and make a pretty large puff and then trim into a nice tighter round shape with scizzors.Looks good and really dampens out a string very well.

Hey Attack,
Good idea, do you put the yarn on before or after you brace your bow??

These work fantastic,  http://www.bowhush.com/
and there is a recurve special.

Just finished setting up a vintage recurve with bow hush and hush puppies. The term "ninja quiet" is very accurate. The bow hush and hush puppies come with detailed instructions for installation. You can't mess therm up. High quality wool yarn is a great system.

I tune and brace it first then do the puffs and wraps but it doesn't really matter, you can still put twists in or take twists out after.

I was worried about using too much/thick of yarn on my string, I wasn't sure how it would affect the length
