Title: Bear takedown limbs...
Post by: cmh on January 15, 2015, 05:24:00 PM
Hello, while I've stared at pics of Bear takedowns and would love to eventually have one I have one question. What is thedeal with the limbs? I keep seeing here and there folks buying a new riser and putting non-bear limbs on it. Thanks  ;)

Some people just want different levels of performance. Stock limbs are good enough I'm sure but some people are very picky. RER and Rose Oak are probably better quality and higher performance and you can get custom woods. I'm sure Border is the most expensive and highest performing if that is your game.

I have a set of stock limbs, #3, from Bear/Gainesville.  I also have a set of #2 RER limbs.  They are ten pounds different in weight so not able to compare side by side. The RER limbs have more recurve in the tips than the Bear limbs.

While we are asking questions......#1, #2, #3 Bear limbs.......short, med, long????? And do the aftermarket limbs come in different lengths??

Yes, the aftermarket limbs come in the same 3 lengths as the original limbs.

As said earlier, the Rose Oak limbs are very high performance limbs. My 52 pound Rose Oaks outshot my 63 pound Grayling limbs. So, I sold the 63 pound limbs.

The above being said, I own and shoot both Rose Oak and Bear limbs on my various Bear TDs. Both are great, but they are different  from each other in how they perform.

I have a few sets of limbs for my Bear risers as well. I have a set of Rose Oak limbs that outshoot a pair of Bear limbs five pounds heavier. Brandon does not show limbs on his website, you have to ask. Last I heard here RER was not making them anymore. Border Archery makes them but they are more dollars than anyone else.

I have two sets of Rose Oak limbs. I can't really tell any difference in speed, but Brandon's limbs are noticeably smoother pulling.

Did Bear ever make a takedown with green glass?

I'm a fairly recent owner of the Bear TD so I can't say I have lots of experience with the bow.  I have three sets of limbs, two of the newer, thinner, red tip limbs and a set of limbs that are probably 15-20 years old. Comparing the limbs I've shot, the newer limbs are definitely an improvement in performance.

I have 2 sets of RER limbs and feel I get better cast with them(never chronographed them) but they are noticeably noisier than standard limbs. My friend has new Bear limbs and said they shoot every bit as good as the RER's he has.

Brandon does not make any claim that his limbs are one bit faster than the Bear limbs...what he does say is that his limbs are better in build quality...I have no doubt that is true as the man is a perfectionist

I have seen at least one with green glass pictured here on the collectors' forum.
About the performances on the factory limbs versus Rose Oak I can say the RO have a different design are incredibly quiet and to me much faster.
