Guys ,please vote
And yours opinions
I prefer the locket socket, like on my Black Widow PLX T/D.Very strong and quick and easy. The bow bolt is nice, but you need to be careful as not to damage the threads on it when apart.
Hands down, locket/socket system. Best and strongest t/d system IMHO. I had a bolt system fail on me several years ago and vowed I never own another again.
I have one takedown with the locket socket. Never had the bow bolt, but being curious about a lot of things I have paid attention when guys talk about it. I do not believe it is as reliable as the locket/socket in terms of bow poundage and failing.
I like the locket socket and also the brass steel sleeve TD the best for overall strength and confidence in holding up to the stress thats put on a bows handle over the years.
If you wanna a bit more mass weight the brass steel sleeve is nice.It puts a little more weight right under where the hand sits.Fox Archery,Wes Wallace and Whippenstick use the brass/steel sleeve. They will contour the grip if you desire a locator or pistol style grip.
I have had quite a few locket sockets by Widow and Big Jim and they work great.
I have had a few bow bolts as well and its a slick system.Hate to say it.But one blew up that had a Phenolic I beam for strength.Maybe that was just an anomaly. The other 2 I had.Had no issues. One had an all phenolic riser.Which may be the best choice?
Statistics is very nice thing
I own a Tolke Whip with the bow bolt. I trust Dan and Jared and I love it. All Phenolic riser and with that I enjoy the little extra weight. If it broke I would be complaining too. But it works like a charm and and I love it.
I had a 2pc longbow with the locket socket. It was nice but I enjoy the bow bolt version better.
I had a bow bolt and had no issues with it.....BUT I will say that I didn't care for the added mass wright to the riser, some of which came from the phenolic used.
Bowbolt. With a Bowbolt you can go with a truly custom grip of any size or profile. IMHO dimensions of the grip are limited with the Locket Socket. I have bows built with both and prefer the Bowbolt.
So far 13 votes for Bow-bolt and 19 for Locket-socket. To me anyway that says its pretty well split. Nearly all of the failures on the Bow-bolt were reported years ago, and due to using it in a straight wood riser, wood is an imperfect material and so that scenario is a no brainer.
I'm with Yellow Dog in that it gives you more options on grip shape.
*I have owned bows with both systems and I like both systems and don't really care which bowyer uses which as long as they are confident in it and know how to build it right.
Perun: you're getting a Java Man, that's been established ;) You can trust Gregg 100%, he's not going to build you a ****ty bow LOL, but an artwork, and it will work just fine with Bow-bolt or whatever system you and he agree to use. Of all people out there using the Bow-bolt system I would trust Gregg anytime, zero question.
I've owned two with bow-bolt, one locket socket. I prefer the locket socket.
I have a featherhorn coming my way with the locket socket. Was never much drawn to the bow bolt. For one I prefer the look of wood, never really wanted to have to go phenolic riser to get the take down option.
I shot the pass around tuktu and made my mind up within a day with the bow that my next bow would be a socket style take down, and a caribow. Cannot wait for its arrival
We only use Bow bolt. If done right they are rock solid.
I would think if you were getting a custom bow made with the locket socket you might get the grip made to your liking. I have two widows one is the locket socket td and they have the Toby grip which is different than the standard grip.
Don't think you can do something like this with a carbon sleeve.

Rob ,
What is feeling when you shooting ? Compared with one piece bow ?
Are those still available Rob?
Beautiful work Chuck! I can't wait to see more of your Echo's hit the streets!
Doesn't Great Northern still make a bow with a hinge ? I shot one of there bows, I must say I was impressed.
Is the connexion hinge still available? I have 2 Mohawks with it right now. I had a couple Robertsons years ago with them and had a couple failures, but this was when Dick first came out with it. I feel I helped him work the bugs out. The last 2 I had from him held up well and the Mohawks are doing well. I also have a new bow made by a local bowyer with the locket/socket and feel it is a stronger system
Done right the connexion hinge adds a small bump but it is easy to get used to and you don't notice it
The hinge is available again, but not through Dick. I have 10 in stock and Steve at Northern Mist also offers his bows with the hinge. I believe the Great Northern bows are a jack knife style and fold together, but don't come apart. The hinge is a great system and I'm glad they are finally available again, simple and solid.

feels exactly like a one piece bow when held, drawn and released. blindfolded, no one can tell the difference. when apart, you get a pair of same length pieces, which helps with longer longbow lengths when air travelling when every inch counts in getting a longbow into luggage.
the lock up is solid and strong.
the only downside for some folks is that when unbraced, yer left with flopping limbs via the hinge. if need be, a small piece of electrician's tape wrapped around the hinge fixes that for me and yer bowhand won't feel that at all. OR, remove the leather grip and replace it with a roll up rubber tube grip - roll up to lock, roll down to unlock.
I have a bow with the connection hinge and I like it. In fact it belonged to Rob D. at one time. It's a Mohawk Longbow.
vince @ mohawk uses LOTS of connexion hinges. i had gotten a couple direct from robertson a few years back. could always ask them if they're still offering 'em.
Chuck,
Get up with Steve Turay. He may be able to fix you up.
I had only one bow fail on me, it was a bow bolt, but the handle is still perfect, that was the limb that failed. I really like the bow bolt on my shrews.
@Chuck
That Locket Socket Shrew looks great man! Nice work!
Thanks Chuck.
