Title: Explain the DAS Dalaa riser to me please!
Post by: Wannabe1 on January 11, 2015, 05:09:00 PM
Could some one with experience explain the Dalaa riser to me and how it works compared to ILF? What do these knobs do for the limb?

The knobs serve the same function of limb retention as the dovetail bushing on ILF limbs, also DAS Dalaa risers have a soft polymer pad on the pocket to absorb vibration and make the system quieter.  Through my testing IMHO the system is quieter and more dead in the hand than many ILF risers.  The knob retention is also a more secure when the bow is unstrung vs. standard ILF bushings that just click into place.  However, you must check the knobs periodically as they can loosen.  Its an excellent system for a hunting bow.  The 21" riser I had was a delight to shoot both with longbow and recurve limbs of various make.  Changing out DAS and ILF bushings is a piece of cake and only takes a few minutes and a steady hand and a little strength if the limbs you have don't have the bushings glued in or installed super tight.  I've always used one bushing to press out another and just done it very carefully and I'm also pretty strong.  Some folks use a C-clamp setup.

Thank you for taking the time to help me with my question. Really appreciate it! Never messed with one of these risers but, the sure seem to have quite a following from what I can gather. Do the knobs get tightened all the way down once the limbs are in place?

No prob my pleasure.  They definitely work well.  The knobs just get threaded into the DAS bushing on the limb and then 'snugged', not tightened with a death grip.

I sent an email to 3R's to see if they could tell me anything about that riser. It doesn't have the finger grooves and not sure what the center cut is. It is a 17" riser that much I know. It also doesn't have the maker emblem on the riser either. Just that marking on the grip.

Just looks like a 3R Dalaa 17" to me with the usual Jaeger grip.  That's the Jaeger logo on the grip.  The centercut measurement should be on the 3R site.

Many thanks again for the info! One more and I'll stop pestering you.   :D  Do you know if they are center cut or just past center?

They are cut 3/8" past center I believe. They are intended to be shot off the shelf with the adjustable side plate like in the picture, or with a rest/plunger. I have an original DAS riser with Winex limbs. Best hunting bow out there...in my humble opinion.   :)

There were several one off versions when David was building them. I believe the one you posted a pic of is a very early Dalaa riser (when 3Rivers was first buying them).

Thanks Allen, appreciate that also. What would you recommend for a rest to go with 3R's shorty plunger?

Allen is right about the centercut, I edited my post. I forgot that I had to shoot a furniture pad on that riser in order to build out the shelf.

Ah ha! Never said I was hunting with it. Besides, gonna be a while before I can afford any limbs for it anyway.    :D   Just picked up the riser is all.

Oh heck, who am I kidding?! I'm failing already!

It's all good! I shot that VPA after getting limbs for it and found I can't control that short of a riser very well. Not sure what I'm gonna do now but, still looking to end up with one primary bow for shooting.

The AAE Champion II rest is hard to beat. I have used one for hunting in previous years.

Lately, I have been shooting off the shelf with excellent results!

By the way, I almost snagged up that riser when I saw it for my growing son. If it doesn't work out for you, please let me know. I will buy it without hesitation!

Thanks for rest suggestion Allen. If I decide it isn't for me, you've got first dibs!
