The Woodsman Elites are close to 3:1, but i was curious if there are any other 3 blade heads out there? I'm not finding much.
If your not finding them at known 'trad' sites, probably not.
Seen lots of 125s. Is 25 grains gonna hurt?
Also, are you looking for screw in or glue on? Have seen some 100 grain glue on snuffers
100 grain snuffers has to be close.
Snuffers are nowhere near 3 to 1 but they are one of my favorites and they are available in 100. The only thing i can think of, 3rivers used to sell a 125 screw in low profile Woodsman. I wonder what tbose would weigh with the adapters removed? Or did you want screw in?
Screw in is what I'm after. Thx fellas.
I have 100 grain inserts btw. Don't want anyone to think I'm shooting only 100 up front. ☺
There are very few 2 blade BH's that atually have a 3:1 ratio.
Doubt there would be an available 3 blade with a design even close to an actual 3:1 ratio.
Visit your local machine shop and have some 2-blade 3:1's made, honestly wouldn't cost all that much to them them cut/stamp some out of good steel for you, then you or they could braze them onto some screw in ferrules, and put an edge on them.
The Grizzly Instinct is the closest to a true 3/1 ratio 3 blade that I know of. They can be had as 175 grains as a glue on head.
In order to get a ratio like that and end up with an effective and legal cutting diameter (1 inch in many states) takes a lot of metal. I suppose the blades could be made of extremely thin material, but that isn't a good option for a durable head.
Bronz, I would think an easy option would be to just use a regular aluminum insert with a Grizzly Instinct and a glue on adapter. That should put you a little over 200 total grains up front.
The Instincts are 2 7/8" long and as far as I know are the longest 3 blade available today. It takes a lot of steel to get a head that long.
I do have some Instincts that got over ground. Since they were already less than the 1 1/8" we wanted. I took them on down to 1" cutting diameter. If I remember correctly they are still around 180 grains. They were originally meant to be 200's.
Bill
might have some more options in a 175 or 200 grain head and a stock insert. lots of combos to get the weight you want with all the inserts and adpts on the market.
The Instincts are a great head. C
Would venture to estimate that there are no 3 blades readily available with actual MA's of 3:1.
Note: the 2 blade Tuff Head has a 2.88 MA.
A 3 blade would take a 4.5" Blade cut length, as measured horizonatally, with a 1" diameter to establish a 3:1 MA.
