I took a few photos of one of my natural ground blinds to show the difference between what we see, and what an animal probably would see.
The first photo is the front facing area of the blind. You can clearly see the bow against the stump, in the color rendition. It is more difficult in the BW. The deer in this case would pass to the lower or upper sides of this.

This one is the upper side of the blind...the most open section. I'm standing on a trail taking the photo. It's about fifteen steps or so from this spot.

Great insight! You're thinking outside of the box.
This is a prime example of why I feel most "main stream" camo patterns are too dark. Patterns with lighter backgrounds like ASAT and Predator are much more effective in my opinion. The black and white photos are mostly different shades of light gray. The best "camo" would probably be a black and white plad shirt. Great pictures!

I saw a post on one of the sites once about this very thing. They took B&W photos of the hunter in various brand name camo patterns in different hunting settings. The lighter patterns with large contrasting dark shapes hid the hunter better than tight designs.
The best camo in the test was a very "loud" Hawaiian shirt!

Good stuff...main reason I loved our own PA Truwoods while it was out..nice bold vertical lines in positive and negative space...
People say we can't really know if a deer sees color but if they disect their eyes and can't find cones for color vision, I'm guessing that they only have rods for night vision and movement... and do a pretty good job of that.
RB, good to see you post too. What a beautiful opener it was in Centre county when I visited there Sat... whew..can't remember a prettier opening weekend...
