I want a short T/D hunting bow. Looking at Shrew, Thunderchild. Part of me is really interested in a Robertson Wolfer, but it is a curve. Think I'd like straight limbs better.
Not really familiar with the other two, but would like to point out that while the Wolfer is a recurve, Dick purposely cut back the amount of recurve on this bow. I would assume the reason he did this was to increase bow stability, reduce chances of limb twisting, make it easier to pack in a backpack, etc., at the expense of few fps of bow speed. You may not be happy with this bow if you really want straight limbs, but if you like r/d longbows, this is really just the next step in that direction.
Hill country bobcat - 56" longbow take down is a nice bow

The wolfer has had my attention for some time. Just not a lot of info out there about it.
I have a 54" Shrew Classic Hunter TD that is been my go to for the past 3 years or so. The quality is great and I really like how it handles In the woods. The grip is my favorite part of the bow - the thumb rest gives you a consistent grip every time. I have 2 other Shrews that have the same qualities but are one piece bows. Hope this helps

The Robertsons have their bow try out program..a great way to help you decide.......
Ive shot shrews for several years , they are very nice and I highly recomend them from the ones you listed . Others that you didnt list but I also highly recomend are the Kanati from Jason at jkbows , and the Lifeender from Chad at lostcreekbows .

The Robertsons also are offering 10% off on their in stock bows right now...that is 170 dollars off on a Wolfer

I have a Toelke Whip 2 piece 58" that is real nice and shoots great. No finger pinch @ +29". Give Dan a call.
Bruin (a sponsor) at least used to make a pretty short take down. His bows are beautiful and very good shooters. I had one that was tiny, and it was decent even over 30" draw. My buddy liked it a lot so it is with him now.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Javaman Elkheart.

Check out a Great Northern LiL Creep. 58" and can get it with the jacknife folding hinge.
The Thunderchild gets my vote, great craftsmanship, ghost like smooth draw, one of those bows that earns the phrase, shoots where you are looking.
GN Jackknife Lil Creep gets my vote
Thunderchild, Shrew, Elkheart, 2pc Centaur, 2pc Whip HS, all excellent. Personally, I would go with what gets your goat the most looks and grip wise. That being said, I'm a 2pc Elkheart man myself currently. Just ticks all boxes for me.
Thunderchild to me shooting wise is a whisker slower than Elkheart, but structurally lighter if you're not after extra mass with the Bow-bolt/ phenolic that would come on a 2pc Elkheart. TC makes up for light weight anyway with even more forward handle for stability. Both bows are equally dead in the hand. Love the TC. You really couln't go wrong with either. I just happen to like the look of the Elkheart a little more and the weight of it with the Bow-bolt setup. Honestly I have had bow-porn thoughts of a 2pc phenolic riser TC with the Locket-socket as a beautiful sister for my Elkheart for some time. Maybe someday.
Shrew CH as originally made by Gregg (I.e. a used market bow) is a fine shooter, but the Elkhearts he's making now are a better performing bow. He has optimized the design and has never stopped tweaking it. He's even offering a 60" Elkheart now that's his neatest effort yet.
Can't speak for the new Shrews as made by Chuck at Two Tracks. They must be pretty dang good if Ron is willing to put his name on them. I think Chuck is using a pretty nifty 2pc system from what I have heard.
Whip HS is another option. Gotta love a Toelke.
Other options were mentioned.
Davey didnt you just sell a 2pc Centaur??????
Im hoping a lefty Wolfer shows up used on the classifieds for 60-70% of new someday.
I have a 56" Thunderchild. Its soild, dead in the hand, quiet, fast and shoots where i look, also very beautiful. Theres not another long that I want.
The Wolfer has also intrigued me. It is the only what I'll call "low mass look" curve I'm drawn too.
I like the heftier look of Schafer, Lee, Habu, Bigfoot, Rose Oak, Bear TDs, etc.
I believe the 1700.00 price on the Wolfer is due to only 70 will be made. Limited Edition series.
I had forgotten about that detail Scott. Good point. He is offering the camo-dipped, I guess 'non' limited edition ones for 1200 or something right? I need to check the site...there's a lefty Wolfer there...
