Plent of tracks around but with it getting dark at five, most of the movement has been at night.

We know they are here, but day movment isn't great right now. Hopin the cold snap coming will get the deer off their lazy arses and moving!!
-
It may do just that. Local guy saw a nice buck and a doe around 930 yesterday morning, and they had not been seeing much lately either. He shot the doe, buck was out in a field.
-
I'm hoping for some daytime action.
-
Brady saw 15 deer this morning some at about 40 yards. We haven't seen any deer in the evening. The morning action a
has been around 9:00.

Doggone squirrels LOL!
-
:campfire: :coffee: Any action???

I hunted the north edge of the north property this morning. I saw few 130 class buck that came in to 60 yards. them I doe and fawn past him. they came right in and the doe ended up 2 feet from my tree stand. it smelled where I climbed up and jump back 10 yards and stood around for a while, after it took off the buck bedded down in the brush at 60 yds. Eventually I had to get down, and it stood up and trotted off.
-
To further explain on him getting down...was 4* this morning with 12 mph wind! LOL
These MN guys are tough birds!
I ran errands whilst it was cold! :D
-
This is chad on tods device. We have seen limited deer movement until the cold snap Tuesday and Wednesday. Up until tues we havent seen any deer in the evenings at all except one night when some black powder hunters on adjoining property pushed some deer past matt. The first 7 sits I only saw deer 2 times. That changed with the cold temps yesterday as Kenny said it would. The deer started moving and everyone saw deer the last couple days. This morning I missed a half rack 4 x I got a deflection and shot under him. That's my story anyway. This evening a mangy coyote came by and I shot it. Anyway Kenny has been a great host and it has been nice to meet him in person. We have a couple more days hopefully the deer keep moving.
Here's how you dress for 3 degrees and 15 mph wind.

Matt, made the first kill of the trip. No trailing needed.

Very nice, I'm looking to get one of those tasty morsels for my freezer to, congrats
-
Nice Job Matt, Not a tin of Bunnies there!
Keep with it and Hope you guys get a deer on your final days.
-
Chad, Congrats on the coyote!

Got back late last night from Kenny's. Wow, what a great time. This was the first time I was on a hunting trip where I hunted 7 days straight. Actually we didn't hunt the last evening so it was 13 stand sits in a row. I had such a good time that it went fast and I could have hunted another 7 days. The set up is very nice. The cabin is perfect and only a mile or so from the hunting lease. It was very convienant. Kenny dropped off 2 4 wheelers for us to use for transportation. Thanks Kenny, not many people would do that.
Here is our group at Camp. The little guy is Jacob, my son. He is 10 and is starting to sit by himself in stand. (http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m433/HolmMadeBows/IMG_1885.jpg) (http://s334.photobucket.com/user/HolmMadeBows/media/IMG_1885.jpg.html)
Since gun season is over, we had permission to hunt the 40 acres the cabin sits on. It has a food plot and deer are using it. It was perfect for Jacob to hunt around camp. I hung a couple stands for him in the cedars 6 feet up and close to the trails. He was very well concealed. He was close to deer a couple times but no shot opportunities.
Jacob's stands:

The first 4 days we didn't see many deer. It was warm thew deer weren't moving much. We didn't see anything on the evening sits at all. We saw a few deer during the morning sits between 8:00 and 9:30. The 5th and 6th days were better especially on the cut corn field. We were seeing 8-15 deer on the field in the evenings. It was very cold these days but worth it to see the increased deer movement.
I sat this big Osage tree 3 times. I didn't see any deer from it but loved the spot, tucked away down in the woods. I could see that it had been limbed out and sat a few years previously. Kenny said that Henry Hammer sat the tree a few years ago. I guess MN guys think alike. I forgot to take a picture of it from the ground. It was a cool tree and I had intended to.

Here's me at the top of the hill on the South Farm.

A very good host, Kenny.

Jacob shared a tree with me, it was cold at times but I'm finding that he handles the cold better then I do. Kids have a built in furnace, I think.

We learned a lot about the property this year. We plan to go back and it will be easier to figure out the deer next year. We didn't bring home any meat but that is okay. Matt and Tod both saw bucks that were 130 inches or better. Lady luck was not always on our side. As usual I wish I could go back and redo the hunt, knowing what I know now but I will have to wait until next time for that to happen
-
Great Recap Chad. You are right about everything you said about that place and the host.
Is that your Kodiak Model in the picture? Looks Great!
-
Congrats on a great hunt, Chad. Wow, has Jake changed since I seen him last!
-
Really enjoyed these guys! I think I was there every nite but one buggin em!
-
Hey Chad, glad you guys had a good time..
-
Thanks for a recap Chad, great picks!
I miss that place and my Tradgang buds, it always goes to fast while your there. Kenny's nightly visits are one of the best things about staying there

Woke up this morning to -12 degrees and windy. What impresses me about hunting in MO is you can utilize the whole season. You can productively hunt the late season. Here in MN 95% of the bowhunting is done by the middle of November. I want to move to Kenny's!
-
Only 9* here Chad!! Thinkin about layin out this afternoon for a tan.... :)
Tell Jacob he left a sack of donuts for me! He was sure he wasn't leaving anything this time!!
Just kiddin him..
-
And we had to drive all the way to the next town to get those doughnuts for him. Stinker.
-
He didn't really leave em, but tell him he did for me! LOL
-
That is some very beautiful country to bowhunt in. Thanks for posting the story and pictures, really enjoyed them.

I'll second everything my bud Tracy said :clapper:

Thanks for sharing your Missouri hunt with us. It's great seeing pictures of what we've been hearing about all fall. Looks like a really nice place to visit!

Thanks for the updates. Kenny's is a special place indeed
-
Kenny has it all in his back yard!! Lucky guy.
-
Yep, I love this place, but if there were less population..... :D
Chad, I did find a pair of rubber boots under kitchen table .
I know the owner has rubber boots in the front room, but not sure what....
-
Looks like a lot of fun!! You can swing by and pick me up on your way down next year.
-
Thanks for the hunt stories. Kenny has a very special place, would love to go back with my boys some day.

I"ve missed 2 years in a row....really miss hunting there...and Kenny.
Thanks for sharing!!!
-
Man, I hope you can make it this year buddy!!
The new guys on tree farm didn't get a buck! So there will be more this time I'm hopin!
Matt, who came with Chad saw 3 the last nite out, and one was a dandy this year sounds like!
-
Chad, that tree is very cool and the spot it is located in is great as well. I had a great encounter in that area with 3 different bucks and several turkey's before I found that tree. If I had found that tree first the results may have been different. Anyway I do have some pics of that tree and a giant scrape nearby if I could only get photobucket to work. I agree with you as well it is a great hunt, an awesome area and the host ain't so bad either.
-
Thanks for sharing your hunt with us Chad. We really enjoyed our week there and hope to be able to do it again next season.
I kinda like the late season hunts...the weather can be bad anytime, but the cut crops seem to draw the deer and turkeys? The lack of gun hunting pressure probably helps too?
Really liking my Osprey...now I need a River Runner!
