Title: my new pack board
Post by: fujimo on December 21, 2014, 06:41:00 PM
just got my new pack board in the mail today- and thought i would post it up here, in case anybody else is looking for a packboard.

It is canadian army surplus- brand new, cost $49 US plus shipping!!!     :D
so far , from what i see, it is extremely well made. it feels really comfortable- will give it a real test in the near future

the hip pads are nicely contoured,

both shoulder and hip pads are adjustable up and down- with a positive locking system

i like the oblique strap from the hip belt to the bottom of the pack really supporting the weight- at the correct angle

some degree of flexion, side to side in the board- but not vertically- really supposed to make it easier on the body- its new to me, when i was in the army- it was kinda old school!!

lots of tie off spots- but no bottom board to help support the load, but looking at it, i think i could very easily fabricate something, that will work really well- will see how that goes.
after a load test, i will post here again
all in all, i feel extremely great value for money.
cheers
wayne

Looking forward to seeing what load mods you do o it. Appears to be a solid base to build from.

i would give you a link- but it wont come up here- its the major auction site- and search for-"canadian army, back pack, ruck sack, pack board"
they come from a place in ontario, called "st, alberts surplus"- you could also google them.

Look at the Kifaru meat shelf kit under pack accessories. It is light and strong and enough to help haul awkward loads. That frame should work well and it looks like a decent hip belt.

fugimo, how are you doing on the load self, I'm going to mount my old day pack, and make a load shelf, that I can use with both the pack in a compression mode or by it self as a load shelf.
