First of all a boo backed bow is not a self bow. It will depend on the glue you use as to weather you can use heat to correct some tiller problems in a bow. Tillering is getting both limbs to bend evenly and together and you can't do that with just heat. With some things there is no easy way!    Pat

I may not have explain clearly enough, I apologise.

Assuming the stave is pre-tillered prior to glue up. And when during tillering if I do encounter a "Hinge" , can i heat it a little to encourage the "hinge " area to bend.........tks

Robin,

With your all bamboo bows, glued up with Urac, you can bend them with dry heat.  Just make sure the lams are as consistent as possible before glue up.

I think your confusing a hinge with a stiff limb. A hinge is actually a weak spot in the limb and you want to minimize the bending in that area. Basicaly that area is bending to much compaired to the rest of the limb. So you have to remove wood on either side of the hinge to get it all to bend evenly. The hinge if left will be a failure point eventualy. Heating this area won't do much IMO.

If you have a stiff spot the only thing to do is remove wood. Heat will just add set and lower the performance of the bow.
