From Cabela's with the windstopper in it?
From their site....
"Because of the 1/2"-thick pile Berber fleece, they are completely silent, which you'll appreciate when closing the distance on game. For even more warmth and comfort, the added feature of WindShear prevents the wind from getting to your body and robbing warmth."
Wondering how warm and are they really silent?
Thanks in advance!
Hey Kenny, I've got the wooltimate with windshear and I love it. It is quiet and very warm. I know that's not what u asked but that's my 2 cents and that's gotta be worth at least .03! Lol
I have the fleece with windstopper.......it's silent and the windstopper works. I have the pullover-1/4 zip with the hood. Light longjohn top and a sweater with the fleece, I would say you would be into the mid 20 degree zone. It will pick up burrs and burdocks........
I,ve got it. It is warm and quiet enough for close range encounters. My only complaint is I don't think it has enough contrast between the light and dark.( I have the dark brown ) Thinking about taking some diluted bleach water and trying to lighten up some areas to give it more contrast.
you may have to run it through the washer and dryer a few times to break the windshear material.
I also have the wooltimate, it is very quiet.
I think they are both very similar, exept the wooltimate has 23% wool incorporated into the fleece. and it is warm. ya...it loves burrs!
dale in pa, I don't think you can bleach polyester. I think its colorfast.
I have some. I like it, although it is quite bulky and a bit heavy, almost like wool, really. I don't find it loud, but it is warm, too warm for down here 90% of the time.
I used it in Nov during the cold snap in Ohio this year - the outfitter series, and it is one of the warmest suits I have ever worn. Period. And I have top rated wool with wind blocker and a host of other jackets/bibs. I don't think the camo is bad at all, it is absolutely dead quiet. But as others have stated it is bulky and I carried mine to the stand where I put it on. I also used my safety harness to tighen it down so it would not be as bulky... had no problems there after. Gets a solid 4 stars from me with one star deduction for bulkiness.
Berber is my go to cold weather gear. I think it blends good even when all the leaves are gone because it does absorb light Don't think I have ever been busted wearing it. Good stuff.

Thanks guys!!
Terry, that is the exact color and all that I've been ogling.
I have some Columbia wool and love the light absorbing texture of it.
Looks like better pockets for gear on jacket would be nice tho.....
What kind of temperatures are you guys talking about? I was sitting in below 0F and am looking for something to handle those temps in a treestand.
I have the pullover and bibs, both with windstopper. It is quiet and light absorbing but don't try to walk far in the bibs-found them too bulky and you'll sweat up a storm in them. Have worn them in 5 degree weather and with longjohns, wool sweater, and thinsulate jeans stayed toasty warm. A little bulky but if carried in they are great for long sits in cold dry weather-would not wear it in heavy rainy weather.
I have the jacket and pants without the windstopper layer. super quiet and pretty warm down to around freezing, with proper layering.
I bought some of the extra-thick bibs during the St. Jude auction 2 years ago, and that stuff is MEGA warm! only problem is you look like the Michelin man when wearing it, haha! it's seriously thick.
I have always stayed away from the windstopper, because I have read it is noisy.
check out the recent thread on First Lite for my thoughts on their Sanctuary jacket, if interested.
I have the parka with hood and the pants
Luv'em! Quiet and warm
Kenny, I'd lean more towards the outfitter wool. Fleece in that nap will take a little time away from your hunting picking those Missouri burrs out.
Actually got to look at a jacket a few minutes ago. Not too loud it seems.
Never been in a dryer either which is sposed to help make it quiet I hear?
Mike, we don't have any burrs anymore, they are all in my wool !
Seriously tho, will the wooltimate be that much better on not getting burrs?
I never have any problems with burrs but we don't have many where I hunt. I was in Colorado elk hunting this year and the burrs were unbelievable. Was wearing Kuiu attack pants that are burr proof I thought, not. They come off pretty east though but not on your string puffs, wow.
BTW There is an wooltimate XL jacket in the classifieds for $75.
I didn't care for the windstopper lining and went for the regular stuff. I thought it was noisy. But I really like my regular vest and 1/4 zip hoody. Yep, it picks up burrs, but it does prevent the brrrs! And is VERY quiet. I had it on Nov. 14th with a stiff Northwest Iowa wind and temps in the teens. Long johns and a sweater. Plenty warm and I"m cold blooded. The downside is its a little bulky. Order big, they run small.
I've got the outfitter camo extreme berber bibs with windsheer. They are extremely warm and totally silent.
Tsalt is correct there are two versions - the one I wore was the outfitter extreme and is was totally quiet and warm.
I have them. They are rediculously warm. Not for walking in. Like most have said the fleece pick up burrs like a magnet.
I use them for coyote hunting where im still and in the open-ish. I have the regular outfitter pattern.
Kenny I have some Cabela's stuff, but if you are looking for silent fleece with windstopper at a good price look at the Predator stuff. Absolutely silent and very warm. Just my opinion.
Fritz I have the predator fleece with windstopper and they are very nice. In fact it is my favorite camo and material for most of the season. However, it is not in the same league as the Cabelas Outiftter EXTREME berber fleece as far as warmth. I was able to stay on stand all day in this stuff in low teens/single digits with 20 MPH winds. It is not shown in the catalog you have to google outfitter extreme. The fleece in the catalog is a lesser weight berber fleece.
I have the Cabelas berber fleece bibs with windstopper and they are crazy warm. Throw them on over a pair of jeans and I am good down to the 20s for stand hunting (no long underwear). I have their woolimate jacket with windstopper and like that a lot too but the fleece is quieter and warmer.
Thanks guys! Great info.
My hunting buddy loves the Berber fleece from Cabelas.. But 2 years ago we were in Illinois and his jacket shrunk and melted a little when he put it in a super hot laundrymat dryer..he bought another jacket and only dries it on Low or no heat now. I have some of their regular fleece with windshear, the liner is not 100% quiet but I only wear it when the wind is blowing and under 35 degrees. I only wear it when I'm hunting "up north" in Ohio, Illinois or Indiana. I also have some windproof Natural G##r fleece ..their fleece is not quiet but it is well made and warm
I'm a big fan of the Cabela's Outfitter Berber...been using it for 6 or 7 seasons. Really warm stuff and I've yet to have an animal hear the wind shear lining. I will say that it's heavy though - that's the only negative. I have the jacket and the pants. I love the camo pattern and the material...it literally melts into the background.
Yep got the 1/4 zip pullover jacket and pants as well. I pack it in on my long sits when it's really cold and/or windy and works great, only way I can stay in the stand on a cold windy day. The exterior is extremely quiet but the internal liner can be noise so I just put it on over another layer of fleece and no problem. The pockets are good and well placed.
Only thing is I wish I had the bibs instead of pants, they would be much easier to put on in the stand without having to take my boots off, but other then that love the outfit!
I like the windshear jacket & vest. I don't wear fleece pants because of all the stick tights, beggar lice, etc. here in central Missouri. If it's cold I usually wear a layer of fleece beneath cotton/poly field pants or poly rain pants.
I have a Outfitter Berber Fleece vest with windstopper and really like it. It's been through the dryer many times.
Just got a new Cabelas catalog and the outfitter Berber fleece is 30% off.
Please keep in mind there are two different versions of cabelas outfitter berber fleece. The really warm and quiet stuff (because the wind stopper is sandwhiched in between layers) is the Outfitter EXTREME Berber Fleece - the jacket runs about 250 and so do the bibs. There is a big difference between the two. Right now the extreme parka and bibs are on sale for around $150 (about 100 dollars off for each item)
the berber is really warm and quiet. the only thing I dislike were the PANTS. They had no zipper which I don't like when you gotta go. Maybe they have them. Just ask if the pants come with a zipper and you'll be ready to go.
I have the Cabela's Outfitter Berber Fleece Series WindShear™ Pants. They have zipper back pockets legs and fly and are really warm and quiet. Also have the vest and quarter zip pull over which I'm not to crazy about..just don't like pullovers. I'm watching the jacket for it to come down in price just a little more. It's now down to $89.00.
Also have the Wooltimate jacket with windshear and like it..but it's heavier.
Everyone seemed to like the stuff. So I bought the pants and jacket. While on a trip to Boston. Stopped at Hartford Cabelas store. Got both pcs for $89 ea. W wind stopper. I got the jacket in XL and the pants in Medium.
It's really comfortable and quiet. A big plus for me is it doesn't bind. Makes drawing a bow easy like you are wearing a sweatshirt. I considered the high priced wool but I doubt it would be this easy to move your arms and shoulders in. Plus the fleece can probably be washed a lot with no problems.
Haven't hunted in it yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance this weekend.

I have the vest, jacket and pants. Love it. But will not wear it in burr/Burdick country..
Kenny,
Recently, Cabela's had it on sale, and after just spending a few weeks out in the minus temperatures, I thought it would be just what I needed. After looking at it and comparing it to the wooltiminate, I spent a few more bucks and went with the wool. The Berber was definitely warm, and as others have stated, very bulky. The other thing was it looked like a burr magnet of the very worst kind.
Hope that helps some...
Thanks,
I have the Berber fleece in outfitter camo. Beenie, gator, pull over, vest, jacket, gloves, bib's and pants. best stuff I have ever used in cold weather. I just came back from Alberta and I never got cold. Great here at home in Ohio late bow season also with winds and temps in the -10 to 15f. Warm and dead silent.

I use the Cabela's Legacy Pro Fleece. It has the windshear. Very good stuff. I wear the Jacket, Pants, and vest and layer underneath. I also like the Cabela's Outfitter's™ Micro Berber Henley underneath the Legacy Pro Fleece. Of course all in Outfitter Camo.
And it is all on sale right now and much cheaper than the Berber Fleece or the Wooltimate. Check out the reviews.

Hmmm.....funny how many think this stuff is quiet, cuz I think the exact opposite. I purchased the jacket and pants quite a few years back now. The pants....I never used much because I didnt care much for the way they fit....they ran small I thought. The jacket I used more, but always thought the windstopper lining had a sound similar to a rain jacket or windbreaker when I moved around in it. So much so that I retired it as a hunting garment. I still use it for general wear, scouting what have you. But I cant deal with the scratchy white noise sound during movement such as drawing a bow. Just my 2 cents..... I see many other like it alot. :dunno:
I would not say the Pro Fleece with windshear is quiet but it is warm. That is the draw back to most anything with a wind barrier. However the Natural Gear Winterceptor Bibs and jacket I have are whisper quiet.
I just got the outfitter extreme bibs before Christmas for a really good deal on sale. Paid 125.99 So far they are the best item I have bought in a long time for hunting. They are super warm and very quiet in my opinion. No doubt that they cut the wind. Contemplating the jacket real soon but it may be too bulky to shoot my bow with.
