Well...I have had it for about a month now and I am absolutely love this bow! It took me a while to get the images on the computer and hopefully the show in this post. It's a beauty...walnut cores, pao ferro limb veneers, beaver tail grip (which will be on every bow I get from here on in. Originally I asked Dan to do an ebony riser. When I saw his stabilized maple risers on his website I emailed him and asked to change if he hadn't already started it. It turned out real well.
I wanted something subtle that would blend in the woods...no harsh contrasts with light and dark wood. He nailed it. Also, it shoots very well. Typical of a Toelke bow...quiet, stable, and quite fast actually.
I am shooting full length GT7595 black arrows, 100 gn inserts with 175 heads and 2x5" fletching. This bow throws them with authority. I haven't taken anything with it, but just walking through the woods with it in hand makes me very happy. Just wanted to share...(hopefully the pics will post)

Very nice.......!
That is some beautiful Tiger Maple!
Good Shooting,
Craig
I have had Dan make me a number of bows, both Whips and recurves. I have ended up shooting a couple of Super Ds almost exclusively. I will admit that the H.S. Whips Dan makes are the finest shooting bows I have ever shot and I still have a 64" Classic. With that said, the bow that I enjoy shooting the most is still the Super D, there is something almost magical about them and I agree with you on the bow's manners, exceptional speed and they are indeed QUIET.
Nice bow. Don't set it down in the woods, Ya might not find it....
2x5" fletching, you use two fletching's....?
That's a sexy looking bow
Good looking stick!
Bisch
Another outstanding Toelke! LOVE that riser.
Why did I look my eyes are burning . Man that's nice.
For me, I'll never own a bow I love more than my Super D and that's one beautiful bow. The start of a great relationship
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I am still getting used to shooting a D-shaped bow, but it is coming along. I have changed quite a bit of my shooting style so I am not only getting used to the bow, but everything else as well.
Mike G...your comment about laying it on the ground rings true. I was out one morning and laid it on the ground, turned around and it actually took a couple seconds to locate it. It blends real well in the dead leaves. And yes...I shoot only a 2x5" fletching...more than one way to skin a cat I guess. It works so I kinda just stuck with it. I did however, bare shaft tune my arrows.
awbowman...I am already putting a wood combination together for my next one! It's a sickness I tell ya.
Regards,
Bill-
Mines Cocobolo riser and XX yew limbs, bamboo and yew cores.
I hear Dan has some crazy myrtle.
God willing, I'll one day have a TD Super D with a heavy arrow and climb the mountains one more time for Mr. Wapiti. Until then I haunt the palmetto jungles after Mr. Whitetail
Great lookin bow...congrats!
Incredible!
I echo Jims sentiments, Dans HS whips are perfect in every way but I spend more time with the Super D in hand. It IS something special.
That is pretty!
I'm really liking that bow. That wood looks so nice, and the beaver grip seems like a perfect compliment to me. Very nice!
Thanks everyone. I tell ya, I have been tweeking some adjustments on my shooting and things are coming along nicely. I think the Super D and I are gonna get along quite nicely. Did some shooting this morning and it was one of those times when everything just fell into place...decided to quit while I was ahead.
awbowman...we think alike! I was thinking yew cores and xx yew veneers or juniper. Haven't quite decided on a riser and I am a ways from ordering...probably summer.
tzolk...I was hoping you'd chime in. I have read some of your reviews on Dan's site which have been helpful in my decision on which bow to go with. I know you have a longer draw as well. Just curious...where is your brace height running on your Super D? I have settled right at 7 inches for now and seems to work well. I may toy with going a little lower; just to see.
Bill-
Will Dan make a td. Super d ?
That's a nice one......I had one and should have never sold it!
Thanks for the "report". I just traded into a Super D and really look forward to shooting it. I'll probably start shooting it in leagues after this deer season winds down.

Yep
I wish I could shoot a Hill bow cause they are just so darn good looking. Gotta love anything Toelke
DANG!
That THANG is flat-out gorgeous.
:jumper: :jumper: :jumper:
Dan has a way with wood....
Enjoy!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
Let's see some pics of the veneers. I bet they're beautiful
I used to own a Super D and I can tell you that bow shoots! Great design and excellent craftsmanship! Mine shot true and while looking at yours, I wonder why I sold mine. Great bow! Congrats!
Bill,
My current Super D and most likely my last, because the # is absolutely perfect, is 50@28 66" and I do draw 30 and maybe a hair over at times so around 56@30. I am currently running my brace at 6 3/4. Nock at 5/8 and am shooting 3 under. I find the GT Trad 5575 31" with 175gr up front to spine perfect. Our Ds are pretty much the same specs. ***Using an SBD 8 strand string***
I had it set at 7 then 7 1/4 but find 6 3/4 to be perfect. It seems quieter at the lower brace and faster then when at 7 1/4. I'll try to post a pic. I love the looks of yours! My favorite
Toelke for sure and that's really hard to say if you've shot Dans bows.
Edit: Here it is. It was an inventory bow. Kingwood riser, Myrtle (tight fiddle) veneers.

Group of arrows at 20 yards after 6 3/4 Brace change along with switch to GT Trads 5575 31" 175gr points

I decided to try 6 3/4 brace because a few other D bow makers say their bows brace should be at 6 3/4. So I thought well, this is a D bow so I might as well try it. It works for me, quiet quick bow- perfect arrow flight, whats not to love!
Originally I was shooting 31" GT 7595 blacks with 200 grain points and thought the flight was good until I shot it against a snowy background and could tell it was a bit overspined, which I suspected anyways. 7 1/4 brace.
Switched to the 5575 trads and all is good.
oh that is a beaut...
Beautiful!
Gorgeous bow. Love those Toelke's.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
Tzolk...So you are the one who snagged that inventory Super D! I watched that one for quite a while as it is a beautiful bow. And yes, our D's are quite similar. Although mine doesn't group quite as well as yours does at 20 yards!!
I am shooting 2 under with one of Dan's tabs and really like the change and feel of the release I get. After playing around with the brace heights, what you report is true. I liked the braced at 7", but when I started playing with 6 5/8 to 6 3/4 the feel of the bow changed a bit in a more favorable manor. The GT 7595s are still flying well and I really like the setup. All I need now is a whitetail to stroll by within 15 yards...or a coyote!
Bill-
I've been wanting to buy one of Dan's bows. But just can't decide between a Super D and his Whip. Yours sure came out nice.

I've lost track of all the ones Toelke bows I've bought, both new and used...part of the fun for m is buying and trading, though.
Give Dan a call...he wll steer you in the right direction.
Bill,
do you plan on putting a quiver on that D? I know it may sound sacrilege for a Hill style. I use the GN kickback on my D. Adds a nice tough of weight but still keeps the bow feathery light. A perfect pair.
Check out the new EFA two blade flat quivers
Tzolk...I haven't found a quiver system that truly works for me yet. I am a 100% ground hunter. Usually with a Torges tree seat and I lay the bow across my lap. A quiver tends to get in the way. That is the only reason I don't put one on the bow all the time. But stalking through the woods, I love a bow quiver. I still go back and forth with the idea of one...on...off.
awbowman...that could well be a solution! Thanks for the suggestion.
Bill-
Just wondering if those of you that have Dan's D bow lost any draw length compared to R/D longbows, whips for instance? I have a couple ASL bows and lost at least an inch in DL. Kinda fouls up what I got them for, poundage wise. Have had, and have, a bunch of whips but thinking about something different for a late season bow.
Great looking bow, Bill.
Lost about 1/2". Dan says 1/4-1/2" was normal
Thanks Jeff.
I concur with Jeff.
Very nice looking bow. Josh
Beautiful bow! A Toelke will probably be my next bow. I talked on the phone with Dan yesterday for about 1/2 an hour. Super nice guy and very helpful.
