Will if anyone remembers my post a few weeks ago about an encounter I had with a giant buck that was just outside my comfort level...I got him! I harvested the biggest buck of my life and probably a buck of a lifetime tonight with my samick sage recurve. I still can't believe that the lord blessed me with this buck. This was my first ever shot on a whitetail with traditional equipment and it couldn't have been any better! 16yds broadside double lunged him! I'm so happy I Dont have many words..thank you lord!
And...how do you post pics!?
Congratulations....when you CALM down, lets here a detailed story!!! :campfire:

ENJOY THAT ONE!
Congrats to you...
Oh my what a dandy. You're right in that it's probably all downhill from there with that brute. Congratulations!
Holy Moly what a beast. A lot of people will hunt there whole lives and never kill a buck like that.
That's a heck of a deer! Many congrats to you!
What is the bow weight and what's your arrow set up? I'm just always curious about such things. I'm super psyched for you...that deer is absolutely awesome!
Very nice congrats
Tip my hat! I am confident I have never seen a buck that big in legal areas.

Bernie
Great buck, it is not a once in a lifetime buck you need to start writhing books.
WOW! Very nice. It's late season, muzzleloader is still in and you're harvesting something like that! Persistance pays off. I love it!
:scared: :scared: :scared:
That's all I got
Great buck! Great start!
Thanks sean b for posting for me and thanks everyone. I will post a whole story this weekend sometime! Got an early morning trip to taxidermist tomorrow!
What a great looking deer!!!! Good for you Bud!
No Problem bud. How many times have you played the hunt over in your head??? Man that's a hog!! My jaw dropped when I opened your email.
A stud. Just a real stud. Congrats on a tremendous buck.
Oh my. Congrats. . . and your expressed gratefulness is encouraging.

Unreal. Congrats!!!
Wow. What a stud! Congrats!
I cant help but to.just smile and shake my head. How awsome is that!!! Congrats
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I was using my samick sage 50# with arrow dynamics high plains hunters fixed with a 125 grain G5 montec broadhead. Penetration was about 8in just enough to blow both lungs. I've never been a trophy hunter so this was just some good old lucky deer hunting
Congratulations, super buck and pictures.
O my good ness. What an absolute giant. Congratulations man thats a tremendous deer.
I cant stop ogling that buck haha. My word!
That is an awesome buck! Congrats are definitely in order. What a way to start killing whitetail with a trad bow. If that 8" of penetration starts to bother you, you might want to shy away from those montecs. Not a fan of the penetration or the bloodtrail, but they sure got the job done on this bruiser!
Well I cant sleep so I will share my story now! Haha
I have been hunting as much as I can and I've been practicing as much as I can. This year for me has been a whole new adventure leaving the wheels and going to a recurve.
I get into the woods at about 245 this afternoon and start to set up on the ground in my usual spot. But for some reason i decided I didn't like it today so I moved to a spot I had never been. Found me a group of trees with lots of brush right behind me (whole area is really brushy),set up my bucket, nock and arrow, and lay my bow on my lap. I knew I had seen this giant here just before Thanksgiving but he was at 30yds during that encounter and I knew better than to take that shot. Fast forward in the hunt and I'm sitting there texting my wife about a new recurve I found for sale I want and I hear a twig snap. A single twig. I look right and there he is 7yds from me. He had come up a trail from a direction I didn't expect and he was getting a drink from a little pool of water. He sees me...started head bobbing at me.but then takes another drink. Once he lowers his head I bring up my bow and turn my body all at once. Sensing something is wrong, this guy stops drinking, and begins to try and get down wind of me making a circle around my position. He gets to about 16yds and he's at a slow walk, his head gets behind a tree and I come to draw. His head and body start to come out from behind the tree and he locks on me. I find my anchor pick the smallest spot on his giant body right behind his shoulder and loose the arrow....smack! Hit him right where I wanted to and he takes off full sprint with about 7in of my arrow dug in him!
I'm instantly overwhelmed with adrenaline and cannot believe what just happened. The whole encounter happened in maybe 2mins. I call my buddies and they show up ready to help me recover this deer. I had no blood trail for 75yds but I knew the direction he ran. We start to find blood, and good blood. Then my broken off arrow with lots of good blood. By this time we are about 100-200yds from where I shot him. I had called my wife to bring more flashlights and she had just pulled up on the road.my buddy's tell me just to go get the flashlights really quick from her so I do. I walk about 10yds from our last blood heading to the wife's car, around a thicket of tall grass, and there he is! I couldn't help but scream out in joy. And once I grabbed him by his rack i realized right then he was bigger than I thought and was a true stud! He's got 17 scoreable points! Main frame 12 with split brows and stickers coming off the bases. I feel truly blessed and I will never forget this hunt. Thanks to the landowners who let me hunt and the good friends that came at the drop of a hat to come help me track!
Fantastic! Congratulations on your amazing hunt! That's truly a once in a lifetime quality buck.
Awesome buck!

Holy cow! Congrats on the awesome buck!
A great buck and a great story - to pass him out of range one day, than get him in close - that's what it's all about! Congratulations - enjoy the time.
DUDE!!! I've been hunting about 50 years for that buck
GREAT JOB, I would have twisted the string, banged the arrows against the riser, shot 10 ft over his back and still be shakin like a crackhead! Did you get an estimated weight? Age? I got a spike bull once that wasn't that big....
Dandy buck ...BUCK OF A LIFETIME for most gonna be hard to top that one CONGRATS!
Super deer, brother! Congrats!!
Great job man!!! I love seeing folks new to traditional archery have success, puts a smile on my face :) .
If you think about it post what the taxidermist thinks the deer will tape. Appears to me he'll approach 190 inches. Congrats again and thanks for sharing!!
Stud whitetail. Give him a good name because you'll be telling stories about him for a lifetime.
Your my hero , awesome awesome buck congratulations !!!!!!!!
I'd guess around 150" !!!

WOW, OMG what a buck! And, while hunting from the ground! Great, short story as well.
I got cold chills when you said you "couldn't help but let out a scream" when you found him. Heck, I almost even got a little watery eyed. Love your enthusiasm and I'm very excited for you.
Terrific deer. Great story. Congrats.
You should put him in Comptons, for sure.
I held off waiting for the story. Congrats on a great buck and hunting season! Sounds like you put in the work and reaped the rewards. Look forward to the mounted trophy when it comes back.
Magnificent animal. Congratulations.
Wow. That is a truely exceptional buck. Especially this late in the season. I know scores are not important but I would sure be interested to know what he measures. Just out if curiosity. What a beautiful buck.
Awesome buck. I know it happens, but shooting a buck of that magnitude off the ground is pretty special, and rare. Congrats.
Congrats. The buck of a lifetime.
Excellent!
Awesome!!!!!! Praise God for it all! Well done.... I would love to see more pics and angles. I want to see all 17pts of that wonderful animal!!!:-) Either post or email! Happy for you!
Nice. I have het to see a deer in Michigan with tines of that length. Great genetics right there.
OOOOOH! Very nice. And done from the ground too. Congratulations!
what a dandy..congratz...I am not a trophy hunter either....but when a dandy like that shows up and you harvest him.....thats just awesome ....
better get him taxidermed
Well done. Congrats on a fine animal.
My goodness, what a brute! I can't imagine such, especially from the ground a-la-natural! Congratulations sheepdog, you didn't give up and you kept it together when it counted!
Now that's a buck. Congratulations young man.
Thanks for such kind words everyone! I still can't wrap my head around this buck... I really only think I held it together because it happened so fast! Dropped him off at the taxidermist today and he is guessing a rough score of 160-165 maybe little more or less....I really don't care too much because I don't know much about scoring and its never mattered to me before...I just know he's gonna look good on the wall! Of course my money for my new bear is going to the mount now! But I'm cool with that!
Good way to spend that money if it's not gonna be a new bow. Many Congratulations on a great buck. Ive learned to never say never and once in a lifetime sometimes happens twice. Keep up the good work.
Congrats, one heck of a nice buck!
Great buck!! :clapper: :clapper:
Daaaaaang
Fabulous harvest....congrats!!!
Absolute beast! Way to go man!!!
What a great story! Goes to show us, that you never know what may show up at anytime. Congrats my fellow Hoosier!
What a nice buck! Hope you have a nice spot on one of your walls to hang the mount.
Wow! Congrats on a buck of a life time!
A real brute, one anyone would be proud of. Way to go!
What county? He is a beast!!!!!!
Carroll county Indiana.... I won't fib this buck was just outside of Delphi hanging in a small patch woods near the Wabash river. I really have no clue how a deer so big survived so close to town and on such a small amount of property! He must have just felt safe there...
You may have said, but how old was he?
DAannng!!! Looks like a p&y. Best you move on to small game now... Wow..
Holy Smokes!!!! Congrats on an incredible deer! :clapper:
What a toad!!! Congrats brotha!!!
monster buck! congrats!!
Darron, I guess it goes without saying that now you can get that recurve you were texting your wife about..although that Samick clearly has some major mojo!
WOW! Congrats dude.

I'm not sure I'm not the best at aging them but I'm guessing he's 4.5-5.5

Haha this is where I'm torn! Get me a good looking bear recurve or keep using the samick. Was planning on moving the samick to my bowfishing rig BC my fishing curve has a serious twisted limb. Either way all my saved money for a new bow is going to put this guy on the wall!
What a buck!!! And what a shot for a first trad arrow shot at a whitetail. Congrats...you were definitely blessed.
Congrats!!nice buck
That one is a MONSTER. Wow.
Awesome buck!! Congrats!!
Man that's awesome, congratulations!

Hes a dandy for sure
Welcome to TRAD...... :clapper:
Nice job holding it together and getting the job done right! Congrats!
Wow....
Once in a lifetime deer.
WOW!! Nice Buck!!
Hunting on the ground too.... I was starting to get a little discouraged with my ground sets, not any more..
A buck of a lifetime. It fills my heart with joy when someone like you who does things right, and hunts the animal giving him the respect he deserves. I have really been upset with the killing of a buck I had been watching bowhunting. Some gun hunters put him down after surrounding him with about 30 shots fired. I feel your joy as a fellow bow hunter, thank you and congratulations.
Wow!! Nice! Congrats
Great Buck! Probably a little tough eating, but a heck of a trophy! Congratulations!

I've been there done that... Watched the deer i wanted to kill get blasted on the property near by. I got into trad for the fun and the excitement. And then when I decided to hunt with a recurve and give up wheels I wanted to do it just like it had been done in years past. Off the ground like my grandfather would have done. What a rush from the ground!excitement is an understatement!
I know it is your first, but you better go ahead and retire!! Majority of us neither have or will kill anything like that brute!!
