Title: I just bought an old Kodiak Hunter
Post by: Snome on December 11, 2014, 03:31:00 PM
I just bought an old Kodiak Hunter, with a green riser. It hasn't arrived yet. Says it has an old string so I'd like to get it a new one. Does anyone know of a good place to get a good string for it? I've been looking through some of the site advertisements.

Appears to have some use under its belt, but hopefully it's got a lot of life left.

Also, the only arrows I've got are 2117's, this bow is 45#. Those are probably a bit heavy, correct?

Also being that I've bought it with only the pictures to go on, if it needs work or repairs, does anyone have any suggestions on where to send it? It appeared in good condition but in case it isn't I'd like to know.

I'm hoping to hunt with it if I can.

Thanks in advance.

I've always been intrigued by the green Bears. Here are some pictures of it:

I'm excited for it.

Great bows......I don't know your draw length but the 2117 may work with some weight up front. Enjoy your new bow!

Nice looking bow! As for a string, 3Rivers has some cheap B-50 strings that should do the trick for less than $10 (and they're a sponsor).

I'm sure there are some guys here that would be willing to make you one as well - just make sure the one you get is not made from FastFlite. Dacron B-50 or BCY 55 should do the trick.

I wouldn't be worried about needing to do repairs - she looks in pretty good shape.

Have fun!

I think that metal bracket next to your bow is for a bear screw on quiver that mounts on the side of the handle.  Not for your bow.

I think a good arrow to start with is a 1916 @ 28" if that is your draw length.

2013 and 2016 xx75 shafts work great from my 45# grizzly cut to27"

Your bow looks like it is in great shape.  Get a dacron string as mentioned above and put a new rug rest on and you'll be set to hunt. The black accessory adapter is for a single spring arm top and fork bottom Bear bow quiver.  If you want to go all out on vintage you could look for the four or eight arrow version of that quiver.  You can go on the classified ad section here and ask for one or look on the big auction site. Enjoy your cool bow..

That's a bracket for a Converta quiver. It has a spring arm on top and bolts to the bracket on the lower end. There are normally a few on the auction site. I use a Kanati on mine.

As far as strings I would get Allen with Lefties R Us to twist one (a sponsor here) for you. Great quality and fast turn around.

Nice old Bear, the KH is one of my favorites.

+1 to Lefties R Us, really like the one he recently made for my Grizzly.

Congrats on your sweet looking Hunter! I would go with 1916 shafts and lefties r us make some awesome strings. The neon hunter B55 string would look really cool with your green hunter. Give Allen a call and he will set you up!

Nice looking bow! 2117's probably going to be a bit heavy for that bow.

Great bow, had one just like it.  It went to a good home, but wish I still had it.  Mine shot 2016's very well.

Killed a nice fat doe with the exact bow that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago.  They are nice bows and reliable shooters.  I'd pick one of the sting makers here on the site and go for it.

Check out First Class Flemish Strings above in the sponsors. Bearbowman makes a beautiful string for older bear bows. There are lots of pictures on his site.

Nice find. Unless you have a really long draw length, 2117 is going to be too stiff. As suggested already, I'd start with a 1916.

Nice K.H. I always liked the green Futurewood and everyone should have at least one "Bear" in the stable just to say "Thanks" to Fred.

He did more for Archery than a lot of us realize. Enjoy yours and like Mahantango said....1916's should fly well or a .600 spine carbon.

                      Good Shooting,
                                       Craig

I have Allen make me a string every time I pick up a used bow.

He's a sponsor here too.

Give Allen at Lefties R Us a call. His strings and service can't be beat. I use his B-55 string on my Howatt Hunter and couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks! Been a while since I've posted. You're all always very helpful.

I'll have to get myself some new arrows then. The 2117's are 31.25" long but my draw is 28".

I might look into some wood or carbon arrows.

I am definitely going to look for an old quiver to attach to it.

Sweet bow!  Set up some 1916s or 2016s and you will have a nice shooter.

I love my X45 Hunter (actual weight is 42 lb). I shoot 1916s with 125 gr up front and they fly great. You are going to love that bow. As other have said, use a dacron string.

I have a '67, It's 58" and 42 pounds. It's truly an "old beater", as someone drilled a bunch of holes in it.  All said, it's one of my favorites, don't plan to ever sell it. I'm shooting gold tip 15/35's out of it.
