not sure if this really belongs in the powwow section, but thought I would post it anyhow to share with my archer brethern.. My father was an archer for 60 plus years before succumbing to death 2 weeks ago! A traditional Archer till the last so I decided to give him a traditional send off. our final parting shot......I made up a special tapered cedar arrow with his name, birth date and death date on it. And since he was a founding member of shade Mountain Bowman in 1959...a bow club in Beavertown, Pa...I went to the club and launched that final arrow over the treetops somewhere into its 90 acres when no one was there but his spirit and I........I let it fly one last time for my father......destination unknown with only his Divine Spirit to guide it........miss you dad.......your son....John "jackdaw" Getz
Very fitting "goodbye" buddy........I'm proud of you!

guys, thank you for the kind words. I aimed the arrow and a more remote section of the archery club. On a side note, I used a repro 1959 Kodiakseeing how the club was founded in 1959.. .I just felt there was something serendipitous about that.....I'm glad you guys approve....peace..
Very nice!
Prayers up for your family!

An appropriate tribute for sure. Losing a loving parent is like losing an anchor in your life.
Prayers for peace and strength,
God bless you. I'm sure your father approves. My father has been gone 10 years and not a day goes by that I don't think of the great times hunting we had together.

Sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss. Never met your father but heard only good things about his ML barrel operation. Didn't know that he was heavy into traditional archery as well. I hope you will continue making barrels.
May he rest in peace.
Thx tecum-tha...I've been making the barrels for the last 16 years now, but he used to come in at work on guns and whatever he felt like. he and I were both about to embark on making longbows for ourselves....going to miss him...

That is really special.
You have me smiling ear to ear, with a tear running down my cheek.

May that arrows flight give you peace
Sorry for you loss John, did not know of your fathers passing. He was a great guy, true gentleman, and I never, ever, heard anyone say a negative word about him. I always liked him, we were always cutting up whenever I was around him at Pall Mall and Friendship. You are a lot like him, both fine fellers. I lost my dad 2 years ago, so I can relate. Prayers sent for you and your family!
John, we are very sorry to hear about your Dad. Prayers sent from the Shaw's. I like what you did with the arrow. He will be missed.
Sam and Mike, many thanks for the kind words guys....Mike, he loved that 1962 bear Kodiak special to his dying day......

:campfire: Very fine salute to your father. His arrow will stand in reverence as you said. I'm certain that from the great beyond he was smiling down as that arrow left your string. rat'
Condolences to you and your family. Losing ones father is indeed a hard thing with which to deal. Many of us have dealt with the same loss so please know that many thoughts and prayers are with you. In my eyes no finer tribute could have been made for your father.
I lost my father this year as well.
God bless and keep you, and may you keep honoring your father every day, in a life well-led.
Yours in our sorrow,
Killdeer

God bless you John, very nice and I'm sure he's looking down and proud of you. I lost my Dad in 2008 but I honor him everytime I go afield. His last hunting license from 2007 rides on my back just below mine. Keep the memories.......John
