Well, down to about 5 days for the Oregon late season and I'm still venison poor. Forecast is calling for rain the next 4 days straight and getting out is not looking good either.
I went out today but, didn't see anything. Set up on a good trail that had tracks from what looked like a good size buck with doe tracks all around. No luck though. Today's setup....

Looks like a killer set up to me. Hang in there! It ain't over till its over!
Good luck, TW!

Good Luck TW I hope you get a window of opportunity. Things happen fast, may only take but a second.
Thanks for the encouragement guys! I am holding out hope and will be out at the first opportunity. I have read many stories of last minute kills and anything is possible.
Charlie: I ended up taking the PSE Ghost out with me anyway! Go figure.
I always stick it out til the last second myself , good luck...
,,,,,Sam,,,,
Keep at it until the end if you can. I've had plenty of seasons end with a shot on the last day.
TW,
I like the look of those"ferny woods" They have pretty much browned up and wilted away here in Pa.
Our Gun Season is coming to a close the end of this week, thankful for that, and then our late season comes back in the day after Christmas. Good luck to you buddy!
Good Hunting,
Craig
Good hunting!
I'm kidding here but maybe you should set up a video camera. We all know those TV hunters always save their "luck" for the last minute of the season.
TW, your photos look good. I am curious if you are using a gillie suit?
The reason I ask is because there would be No way I would get a shot at a deer sitting against that tree. Don't ask how many times I had to do it before I learned.
I've never hunted Mulies or Black Tails, so they may be different.
I try to put as much cover immediately behind me and if possible a little in front of me although the in front is less important than behind.
Anyhow, I hope you make it out! Let us know if you do.
I cant believe you are cheating on your Tigercat. LOL
Heard or read this somewhere, not sure where, and it made a lot of sense. I always remind myself when things are getting down to the wire.
Most hunting encouners happen in 30 seconds or less. From the time you see the game animal until the time the shot is made. It only takes 30 seconds to change you season/life. I have at least 30 seconds left.......
Thanks again everyone and I will definitely be trying to get out again if possible! Not ready to hang up the bow just yet. :D
Charlie, the pics are kind of deceptive as I had plenty of cover plus I was well camoed up against the tree. I try and break up my outline as much as possible while ground hunting. Ya, the Tigercat is one bow I am trying to keep in good shape to pass on to one of my boys. Don't want to take it to the woods much anymore but, do shoot it quite often in the back yard.
That's a nifty seat you have there. Don't you feel naked and exposed though? Do you put anything in front of you to break up your outline and hide movement? I'd be worried deer were seeing me and avoiding me before I see them.
Oops, didn't read all the posts, my question about cover was addressed
Great looking woods, I like it. Good luck, and go down kicking!
good luck! I've read how much you want to get one. hope it happens for you.
Really appreciate that Johnny! This is my eighth year trying and I refuse to give up and go rifle hunting. My wife asked me last night why I just don't go with her brother during rifle season and get my first, then go back to bow! My answer was, once my mind is set I don't like to change it! Plus, where is the challenge? She rolled her eyes and I could see she just didn't understand. :bigsmyl:
TW, I'm with you, My wife doesn't understand either. She's constantly telling me to go with a gun, get one and be done.
To me the perfect hunting season is long, lots of encounters and a killing shot on the last hour of the last day.
Wouldn't that be something?! Last hour of the last day. Perfect ending to a dream I'd say!
