Not a good sign for the ETAR
That would really be a shame. At the same time though, this was partially the thinking in the Ski Sawmill shoot.
Originally that shoot was created in case the lease at Denton was lost, but now it serves as the perfect backup if something catastrophic like this were to happen. I'd hope they could still run both shoots, but if not, hopefully the vendors would be able to make it to Sawmill instead.
The good news is they said they were just closing for this winter season. Hopefully they see the value in things like ETAR and continue running with hopes of improving their financial status.
I hope it all works out I have been a huge fan of ETAR as a vendor and wanted to go this year as just a guess to shoot instead of work for a change. I guess I will have to go to SAW MILL!! if they cant get ETAR up and going .
If I remember correctly that Swain shoot was being advertised up at Denton last year, either on a flyer or Denton's advertising, can't remember for sure.
It is all about money these days and I do not know what stipulations go along with a State Park, but the gas drillers are big up that way if you know what I mean.
Good Shooting,
Craig
Yes money does the talking, hate to see gas wells there instead of our campfires and trad bows. Keeping my fingers crossed, would really miss it!
dont know why eveyones excited. the article seems to address the 14-15 ski season, not year round events. LW has a similar post about this too.
I'm not canceling my reservations just yet. My wife and I will still go up for a long weekend just to enjoy the area.
According to what I read, if the folks cancelled their lease, the politicos indicating pushing to have the facility used more "year round"...
That perhaps, Kevsuperg, would suggest those ETAR folks are not going to be a part of the new plan?? Only ONE reference in the reviewed article mentioned including the "concessionaires" in the discussions...
Bottom line, I agree that it's futile to get excited. Whatever will be, will be and a 4 day trad event will not impact the decision much.
I recall raising cane with elected officials about the TAX thing where the bureaucrats came in years back and forced vendors who were Inc or LLC to file quarterly tax reports to PA for doing biz for 4 days/yr... nobody cared that it could impact the area and brought in huge $$ to the local stilted economy... I supported collecting the PA sales tax and sending that in, but corporate tax???
Perhaps the longer ski season has a bigger fiscal impact and larger, move vocal support base so that will "move mountains" as it were.
Everyone says that Sawmill was the "shooters choice" and the ETAR was the dealer's choice.
HOPE whatever happens it doesn't change the complexion terribly of the Sawmill shoot, which was highly touted...
Tough biz to be renting a facility with no ROI for improvements to someone else's property...
I hope all can rebound and land on their feet. Big income for the local area, but it was other's livelyhood!
My heart dropped when I read this. I HOPE the ETAR does not stop. I planned on taking my 2 year old son there once his is older and going there with him for years to come. I will stay tuned to this one!
Don't worry gang. There are a lot of rumors going around about this shutdown. No one knows whats going to happen yet. It surprised all of us in the ski community, as it is our backyard. I surely wouldn't count ETAR out though.
I think we all should calm down. The state park is not closing, just the private entity that ran the ski resort who is not the same people who put on ETAR.
But, we might need to hike our butts up to the top of the mountain if the ski lift is not maintained. That would suck in the hot sun of late July.
I walk up all the time. I am not riding that Rickey lift
Let be like the animals and adapt ...all will be fine but sure it is a bummer for lots of skiers! that's a big thing up there in the winter for sure
