Title: loving my torges seat.
Post by: hickstick on December 01, 2014, 02:27:00 PM
friday was the second to last day of Archery season up here in MA....and the 5-8 inches of snow we'd gotten on wednesday/thursday had turned into 2 inches of crusty loud snow/ice.   so I decided keep rooted to the ground rather than climb in a stand, so I brought along my torges tree seat that I made last year....

sooo comfortable I sat in 20 degree weather from noon til 1/2 hour after sunset, without budging.

heres my setup....

panoramic view:

and my ugly mug buried under a neck gator (toasty warm in my aspell wool.

unfortunately nothing else affot but a couple squirrels easily seen over 100 yards away.

if you zoom in on that panoramic shot, I have as 16 foot climbing stick and a tree stand three trees to the left of my bow.   :)

and in the snow on the cart road coming out of the field there are 3 sets of deer tracks and 4 sets of yote tracks.   :(   time to start doing some predator control.

I wouldn't last on that seat for two hours without having to get up, probably more like one hour. Twenty degrees is cold too. Glad you had a good time.

I love the pics. What bow is that with the broken riser? Did you fall on it, or did it let go at full draw? Looks like a nice custom.

I found that if I click on your pics, I can keep loading pics from your album with the right and left arrows.

Foxboro...yea you can set albums on photonic to be public or private.  I have mine set to public so anyone can see.

The broken bow was a bow called Red Thunder and was custom, mAde by a friend.   It failed at full draw, the bow quiver probably sAved me quite the headache.  All I got was a fat lip from my string hand whacking me in the face.  Was a said day though, loved that bow and several deer were taken with it.

The seat is actually more comfortable than you think .   Because the ropes give a little and the foam pad I glued on...plus my Columbia wool bibs....I couldn't hardly feel it.

I love a good ol' cold-weather, late-season hunt!

Looks like you had a good one!  Thanks for sharing.

and yup. found out yesterday (opener of shotgun) that 3 guys came through on a drive and shot 2 doe in 10 minutes, either on, or right next to the posted land I have exclusive permission to hunt.   sad.  can't fault them for taking the doe, but their methods and possible tresspass onto posted land irritate me.

I sat in my torges seat yesterday afternoon, too.  I cut one out at the beginning of the season and am impressed with how well they do work.
And, like you, all I saw were squirrels.

Didn't notice one in the "How to" section.  Are there any aids available in building one of them.

read this:

then do a google image search for torges tree seat and see all the modifications people have added/done.

Still love mine as well.  I have used it a bunch this year.  I added an old seat from a summit viper. I cut the straps used to attach it to the climber. Makes for super comfortable sitting.  I have some columbia pants and jacket.  I have found them super warm in our low temps this late fall.

Great post and looks like I need to add me one of those cushions to ease the bony butt!

Before I camouflaged it...Bamboo built this for me, folds in half. Ties down easily to my fanny pack and Catquiver.
