Has anyone laid their eyes on one of the new Bear Super Kodiak's yet? The one with phenolic and rosewood riser. Just wondering if its as nice as the old late 60s Super Kodiak's ? Or if its going to be as sweet as the new 59 reproduction Kodiak? The pics look like the riser might be a glossy finish but limbs look like they are a duller black glass?
I hear there's a 9 month wait list, so some folks must like the pics they see. Are they not going to be available in both glossy and satin?
You better call Big Jim and get on the list.
Wow that's not what I wanted to hear for a wait time. Lol. The web sight doesn't really say if satin or gloss.
If the new ones shoot as well as my '69 SK they definitely will have a winner! As Blackhawk stated "You better call Big Jim and get on the list".
Bernie
Ya I've been watching those older ones forever with drool coming out the corner of my mouth. Lol
Was the 69 all phenolic? The rosewood and phenolic a couple years before that ?
Bryan, the 1967.5 was the year of the first Super Kodiak...and it was all phenolic which was called the "Black Beauty". In 1968 and 69, Bear added the rosewood "horns" which is the model for this new introduction.
Gotcha gotcha! I was thinking backwards then. There must not be much info on this new one yet no one seems to know much.
No one knows for sure about the wait. I handled a couple at Bear on Wednesday and I would expect them to be available a little sooner I have already been seeing some of the 2014 bows coming in so we can only hope.
They are magnificent! I have a lot of bows on order and should be receiveing them as soon or sooner than most. Have already taken in two hundred bear bows in the last 30 days.
If you want one...any one, your best bet is to get on a waiting list...I would prefer it to be my list. If the bows aren't ordered already, chances are it will be a very loooong wait for re- orders.
thanks, bigjim
Holy smokes that's a bunch of bows. Hey thanks the info. Sounds like they may be pretty dang nice if you say they are magnificent.
Has anyone laid their hands on one of these yet?
Was playing on the big auction site today and look what I found. Some pics of the 2015 Super K.

Ohhh sweet baby!
That's a great looking bow ;)
Nice
they just look so awesome..
Ya they do. Can't wait to see one in person. Wish I had the funds.
I like how they rounded the tips on the remake. I was never a huge fan of the squared shape on the originals.
I like it...except for those holes drilled in the side. Anyone know if that guy who drills ever takes a day off?
Yes, mucho better looking tips!
I was trying to decide if I liked those new tips or not. Still undecided. I could definitely do without the holes on the side. But the finish sure is purdy and they did a fabulous job with that.
Any chance you could order without the holes?
I'm thinking how much better the bow (and the originals) would have looked with matching wood overlays on the tips in place of the white.
In these pics it looks like the limbs are finished in a high gloss. On the Bear site I'm sure they looked flat black which I much prefer. Anyone know for sure what I can expect when it finally arrives please?
Dave
Big Jim may know, he's seen and held one of them.
The pics that I have on my phone are definitely glossy limbs on both sides.
I like it! :goldtooth:
As to finish, I hear they can be ordered in either flat or gloss AND 60" or 64". Let's hope Bear would omit the inserts if requested.

Sorry
Put this in the wrong thread!
The '59 replica Kodiak is now available in Gloss or Satin. The information on the Bear website is a mix of correct and incorrect information. The description of the new Super Kodiak says "Tips are handcrafted and layered with white fiberglass then the bow is polished to a high gloss finish".
However, under features it says Satin finish. Of course, it also lists a feather arrow rest (NO), leather grip (NO), and 60" AMO (60" AND 64" AMO).
The picture on the site makes it look like the limbs are flat, but I haven't seen one in person to be sure.

The New Super Kodiak is all Gloss, and the limbs on the bow on the website were gloss, but were photo-shopped a bit and appear flat.
I am on the waiting list with Big Jim but I can tell you I want the inserts for a bow quiver. I far prefer that to the various rubber, velcro and clip method where they slide over the limb.
Thumper I agree!
I agree too.
None the less, it sure is nice to see Bear bringing back these nice looking bows again with a little new technology . The excitement is back for me again to have them look like they did in the Grayling years.
I've just received the following confirmation from Bear Customer Care.....
The entire finish on this bow including the limbs will be a gloss finish.
Bit of a shame as I really liked the satin of the limbs combined with the gloss riser. Does anyone have any ideas how I could take the glossy limbs down to a satin finish without ruining the bow!?
Thanks,
Dave
At least now we know.

Since these are 1-piece bows, I would think it would require a pretty meticulous masking job where the limbs meet the riser to get the limbs in one finish and the riser in another. Assuming this gets done OK, you could probably steel wool the limbs to dull them up and then hit them with a satin finish??
TTT for sutts for pics of the new Super K. Page one.
Thanks Bryan. What do you think of the all gloss limbs? I guess I'll get used to them but would have preferred the satin shown on the official site. Bit misleading really.
Cheers,
Dave
Well I'm kinda partial to all the gloss. I really like the glossy Grayling bows. Guess I'd have to see both in person, but if ordering sight unseen I'd probably order all gloss. Definitely like the old ones.
Well, I saw the new Black Beauty SK at the KY TradFest at Big Jim's booth. He has a 50#er for sale--couldn't believe he still had it. It is really glossy, but the one thing that I noted right away was the huge limb tips. They are very large and solid white. I don't mind the white but they are at least half again as large as the tips on my other SKs, 59er, and TD. I am not sure why they are so large other than the fact that the limbs are pretty wide at the tips as well. I like my 2014 SK better. But that's just me.
Interesting about the gloss finish as the website says specifically, satin finish.
Yep I agree ,I like the smaller tips myself. I thought my new takedown tips where kinda large even. Do like that gloss though.
