This morning had me singing a verse from a Bob Dylan song, "The wind it was howling, and the snow was outrageous". Snowing sideways with a 40 mph wind, and I decided to give deer hunting a try, since the time is getting very short. The wind was helping if I wanted to try to find a buck in a bedding area, so I came in from above where I could look down on beds. The brush in the area where they like to bed is extremely thick, and it was my downfall this morning. As I crept up to look over into the area, I spied a very good buck, and he was bedded, facing away from me with his nose into the wind. He was also 15 yards away, straight downhill. The brush afforded no shot, but just as I was thinking how to work this, he got up, stretched, and moved towards a slightly more open spot. I thought that the shot might occur, until I spied a doe that had me pegged. She did what they always do, stamped her foot, blew, and took off, taking the buck with her. DANG!
This was as close as I have been to a good buck this season, and probably will be as good of an opportunity that I will have. That's why they call it hunting. One more day for a chance. It has been a fun season.

It wasn't the warmest I have ever been, with the wind and blowing snow.
Here is a bit of what the dreary day looked like...Click on the vid.

You are a tougher man than me!
Snowing and 40mph wind would keep me under the covers!!!!
I hope you get to loose an arrow on the last day!

My gosh! That's cold...I'm with the others, you should have had cigar. I think we may have a new camp tradition on our hands!
Just watching the video in the warm comforts of my home still caused me to get chilled...wow,what a day for bowhunting...hope your last day will be milder and you get to connect on game. Best of Luck to you Pat.

Well, my season is done. It was snowing a lot again today, accompanied by a lovely 40 mph wind again, so I gave it up. We are going to Hawaii after Thanksgiving, so bucks will be closed when we get back. Worse things could happen.
And, not too long after that, we will head to snowbird central in Arizona, where I get to do a lot of stumping and work on my tan.
I had an enjoyable fall season, with a doe and two turkeys down, and I got to play with lots of elk and deer, so I'm not complaining. Now, I will start to look forward to spring turkeys and bears. Always something to keep me interested.
I drove through Wyoming in a box truck day after thanksgiving and darn near didn't make it. Mile marker 6 just into the north end of the state an 18 wheeler was blown over on the northbound lane as I passed. Saw the whole thing. My box truck nearly blew over too. I stayed at the Hampton in Sheridan. Winds that night had to be 80+ MPH. I'm guessing that is right about where you are.
Whew! I was shiver'in just watching the video. Hope you get another chance.
Congrats on the successes that you did have this season Pat. Hope y'all have a good time in Hawaii!
I guess I'm a whimp, but I prefer warm, sunny October days for hunting. My hat goes off to you!! You are hardcore Sir!!!
