Well my annual Texas hunt has come to an end. It provided a lot of opportunity but not may shots. Had 5 different good bucks at 10 to 15 yards, 4 different 8 points and a really nice 11 point, but all were either facing me or quartering to me and I will not take that shot. All of them exited without offering a shot.
I have been trying to kill a turkey for many years, have had shots but never pulled it off until this year. This Jake gave me a shot and I did my part. He could not fly after the shot but managed to get in the thick brush behind my blind about 60 yards away. I was gonna let him sit because it was prime time but due to the number of coyotes in the area thought better of it and retrieved him, good thing I did because I no sooner got back in the blind when the coyotes lit up behind me within 10 yards.
I am proud to have him and it is the first turkey I have killed with any weapon. No hero pic yet, waiting on my friend Smitty to email it to me so this will have to do for now.
