So, I'm probably going to order an ESB pullover tomorrow, but can't decide between the light/medium weight, or the extra heavy weight.
I like my friends green one which is blanket weight, just heavier than the extra heavy, for putting on around the campfire when it gets cold, BUT, in CA, I don't think I'd actually wear it as much when I'm out hunting as it might be too warm?
Besides, I might also get a grey woodsman wool anorak in the future, if I sell my boreal shirt anorak. So, by that logic, I would be better off with the lighter one so I can actually wear it when it's warmer, or is it still pretty warm and no matter what, I won't want to wear it unless it's less than 50*F?
What weight wool do you guys have, and what are your thoughts and opinions on it?
If you were going to buy another one, especially for my climate would you go with the lighter or heavier version?
I have the ESB in extra heavyweight and I have the wool anorak in blanket weight. There is a noticeable. but not huge, difference between the two. Having lived in Cali for years I know the mornings and evenings can be pretty cool... I would go with the heavywieght. I hunted this morning in the low 50s but pretty windy... Had a minus 33 wool base layer, a medium lightweight Pendleton wool shirt and my ESB... I was glad I had the heavy weight.
Also, it's real breathable which broadens the comfort range.
Well, a couple of each gives you lots of options !

I agree. I really like the blanket weight. If it's too warm just don't layer as much.
Personal preference of course, but I have the Evening Stand Green Mackinaw Pullover AND an Evening Stand Brown Vest without hood in their traditional/typical weight... I don't recall getting to choose, but it's at least Heavy Weight. I also have the high neck Windblocker Vest. I can layer up, Mix and match etc, as a very versatile system for about every temp/condition without bulk... If its really cold, I go Under Armour, then Merino Wool, then Wind blocker, then Pullover, then Vest, then Mackinaw Cape... Pretty Sweet! I put my Safety Belt tether out over the vest but under the Cape so I still have hood AND can take Cape on/off as needed... Just some food for thought....

Yes, in the fall/winter it can be pretty chilling at night/mornings.

And since it is Christmas, here's the rest of my wish list:
An Evening Stand Brown that has no green, just brown on brown on tan.
Jeans made from the same wool the pullovers are, but in the lighter weights, so they could be worn in the same temperature range you would wear regular jeans.
Man, for here in CA, some solid kahki colored wool jeans with an evening stand brown(minus the green) pullover, I'd be in heaven!
I've been debating which weight as well. I want a zip up in blanket weight....but I was really wanting plaid. So I'm torn between extra heavy plaid or blanket solid. I wish I knew exactly how much warmer blanket would be over the extra heavy.
I bought a light/medium weight in ESG for early season and I really like it. I'd say it's about as warm as a nice sweatshirt, maybe a little warmer...perfect for those chilly mornings and evenings, mid bow season, up a tree.
