Title: Screaming eagle stand users?
Post by: Bullfrog 1 on November 20, 2014, 04:16:00 PM
I still have a few of these from "back in the day". I still love them but man hanging them is a bitch. I usually pull them up with a rope and then wrap the chain around. I use these as leave in stands. Anyone have any hints or tips on hanging them? Other than getting your buddy to do it.  Bill

That's how I have been doing it since 1988. There's got to be an easier way...

Same here - I sometimes put a hook up in tree, throw a rope loop over stand and then pull it up and hang it from the hook until I can "chain it down"

Some of my stands are over two decades old now - love they are still going strong.

But I tend to use my Lonewolf or tree saddle much more often now

Hard to hang, but once in place, hard to beat!!!

How are the ones with the bracket mounting system? Are they as solid as the original?

I have backpack straps on mine. I climb with it on my back til I get to where I need to be and using my climbers rope to steady myself while attaching the stand. Only takes seconds to wrap the chain around the tree and I'm done.

Using the bracket makes it very easy to set up.  Climb with the bracket wrap around tree, pull up stand and slide in. Done- very solid.  Also if you want you can place a ratchet strap as secondary safety making even more stable.

I'm not sure why a screaming eagle is any harder than any other lock on stand. I have 2 of them. After I reach the top of my ladder stick, I make sure and snug up my limesmans belt so I'm close to the tree. I pull up my stand with my lifeline rope. The stand is already folded out and ready to go. I put my left arm underneath the cables where they attach to the top of the frame and grab the back of the tree with my hand. the stand naturally contacts the tree like its supposed too and I can usually reach around with my other hand and grab the chain and hook it up. The key is the linesman belt holding you close to the tree. I then step on the stand and bounce my weight a couple of times close to the tree to slide it down the tree as it locks in. Then I tie up my lifeline and padlock my chain to the frame. Voila. Sreaming Eagles are great stands especially up here in VT when it gets cold. They don't creak. I'd post some pics but it's a PITA on this site.

I use a harness and lineman belt wrapped around the tree to free up both hands.

I bought one of those rope and pulley stand winches for about 25.00. Strap the support arm around the tree with the locking pulley and just pull the rope the stand is tied to. The winch system holds the stand in place while you wrap the chain around the tree.  I only use it on stands I am leaving up although the winch system comes with it's own pouch and doesn't take up any room.

I have a six ft length of rope with a hook tied into it. I tie the rope a little above the spot I want the stand it.  I also have 6" piece of courage tied to the top of the stand. I then loop the stands cord over hook and that leaves my hands free to deal, with the hang on chain.  Once the chain is secure I simply untie the rope and the stand sinks into place.  Easy...
