Title: "Hunters Taper" shafts from Hildebrand...?
Post by: Al Kidner on November 17, 2014, 10:05:00 PM
G'day guys,

Just wondering if anyone has ordered and shot the above mentioned shafts at all? I've always like the idea of tapered shafts, how ever you name them, be that Breasted, Barrelled or Hunters and thought I'd ask around.

Cheers,

ak.

Never done fir from them.
Bought quite a few dozen tapered spruce shafts though.
Good shafts, good consistency, real good people.

When I look for wood shafts I go to them.
I'm normally looking for lighter weight shafts (spruce) so I can use a heavier head to get my weight up...adds a little foc...which I figure won't hurt.

If memory serves, in Dr. Ashby's exhaustive penetration studies the only taper that provided benefit is a back taper, where for example an 11/32" shaft tapers down to 5/16" at the nock or rear end of the shaft. The "barrel tapers", where the front and rear of the shaft taper down actually impeded penetration.
