I went to Larsen Bay on the 10th and returned on the 15th. I was hunting with Kodiak Charters again. Weather was not real good. Lots of rain and wind was keeping the deer brushed up but I saw deer everyday.
The afternoon of the 10th I hiked up the trail from the Larsen Bay airport and I had shot opportunities at two different little spike bucks that I did not take.
On the 11th I had the boat drop me off across the bay. As I was still hunting my way up the hill I seen the alders moving about 30 yards down the hill from me. It was a buck rubbing on them. I gave him a little grunt and he started coming my way. It was looking like he was going to cross an opening just below me that would give me a 15 yard shot. I was getting ready for that shot and just before he got there he turned and came right towards me stopping at about 7 yards giving me a slightly quartering to shot. I took the shot and it looked good a complete pass through right where I wanted to hit. The deer ran past me stopping at about 10 yards. I was getting ready to shoot him again but he trotted up the hill about 30 yards and went down.

You did good!!!!
Good job !! I hope to get my health better and come to Jueno to hunt with my son in a year or 2 .
May life's simplest things bring you the greatest pleasures !!!!
Cool.......
Congrats on an outstanding buck and hunt!
When I went to pickup my arrow there was a second buck in the alders at about 20 yards that I could have got a shot at. One deer is all I can carry at one time and it is not a real good idea to leave a deer and come back to it later on Kodiak so I let him walk.
After I got the deer quartered up and loaded into my pack I set down to eat a sandwich before heading back to the beach. While I was eating it I had another buck come by and stop at about 15 yards once again I let him walk. Then when I got my pack on and was just getting ready to start back to the beach here comes another buck down the hill. It was a busy morning.
About an hour later I was back at the beach with the deer.

Wow what a great hunt. Congrats Brother!
My favorite hunt ever. Thanks for bringing back the memories. I've been on a lot of different hunts and places and that isnthe number one to do over. Haven't made it to the do over list just quite yet. Beautiful buck!
On the 12th it rained hard all day. I went back to the same area where I had taken the deer the day before. I seen a couple of bucks had a shot opportunity at a doe.
The 13th it was not raining but was real windy. I once again went back to the same area. Seen a fairly nice buck chasing a doe in the alders on the hill above me so i worked my way up the hill along side the alder patch. Once I got up to where I had seen the deer I set down and watched for about 45 minutes. It was getting late enough that I needed to start back to the beach so I started still hunting back down the hill. Once i got about 200 yards down the hill I looked back and the buck came out of the alders right where I had been setting. Another 20 minutes of setting might have gave me another shot opportunity.
On the 14th it was still windy. I went to a different area a little further up the bay. I seen a few deer but did not get a shot opportunity.
The weather was pretty nasty most of the time. Due the the high winds we were never able to get outside of Larsen Bay the entire week. But the hunting was good enough inside Larsen Bay. One of the good things about hunting in Larsen bay is that you can always get out to hunt even in the high winds. This is my 5th or 6th trip there and I have had a good time every trip.
There was only one plane made it into Larsen Bay from Tuesday until Saturday. My original departure time for Larsen Bay was @ 3:00 PM on Saturday but due to the weather we left earlier on the only 2 planes that Island Air got in with that day. As it was we had to fly all the way around the island at 400 feet to get into Kodiak. Island Air was able to get everybody and their bags out of Larsen Bay but they were not able to get all of the deer meat out. Once they were able to get it to Kodiak they took it to Alaska Air cargo and shipped it to Anchorage for me. It arrived in Anchorage today.
Very nice! This is still my dream hunt. I might have to take next fall term off. Congrats on another successful hunt!
Very cool! Congrats! That hunt is definitely on my "short" bucket list, would you mind if I pm'd you with a few ???
