Several years ago I shot a nice 10 point(Back Yard Buck) from a ground blind that is set up in my garden behind my house. This year the same set up allowed me to shoot my best buck ever. there is not much to the story but here it is. I promise no breaks to go to work or watch football.
I have 8 apple trees in front of my blind, the property next to me is farmed and they rotate crops corn and soy beans this year it is soy beans. The deer walk through my little orchard going to and from there bedding area and the crop fields. My usual hunt is the first hour in the morning in the blind then I walk to the back of my property and set in the tree stand. more often then not I will see the same deer from my stand that I just saw from the blind earlier. On October 25 I got in my blind as usual and had 3 does feeding on apples at first light. I was watching them walk towards the soy beans when out of the side window of my blind I see antlers. I always keep my bow in hand with arrow nocked. The buck walked into full view in front of my blind as his head past behind the tree in front of my blind I came to full draw, when he cleared the tree I locked in a on a spot behind his front shoulder,I don't remember the release but there was my fletching right in the spot I was focused on. From the time I saw antlers till the shot was probably 10 or 15 seconds. The buck took off and headed towards a field behind my house. At this point I know he is a nice buck but that is all.Now I know your supposed to give a deer time and should wait a while before tracking but.. I knew I made a good shot and was out of control excited. So I jumped out of my seat unzipped the blind and proceded to trip my self on the bottom of the blind door, falling face first and knocking the air out of myself. I picked myself up and tried to calm down. Im lucky my excitement hits the hardest after I shoot something. Anyway after gathering up my bow and getting air back into my lungs I walked to the spot that I last saw the deer and laying in the field about 100 yards from my blind was my buck. Total time from shot till a had my hands on him was 5 min.
Well that's the story. This year I switched from recurve to longbow I was shooting a Big Jim Buffalo 64" 54@28 Easton aluminum shafts and zwikie eskimo broad heads. The deer had a 32"neck and I measured the girth and according to the chart he weighs close to 250 lb and for reference he green scored in the mid 160. I will try again to get pics posted but may need some help to get pics up. Almost forgot the buck was shot at 8 yards.
Congratulations! I can't wait to see some pictures. Bob

very nice sir. must have been eating good out of your garden. lol
Sure nuff a humdinger!!!
Way to make it happen.
Great deer! Sure is nice being able to hunt so close to home. The first couple years my wife and I were married I had a ground blind within walking distance of the house.
We've since moved and hunting requires much more effort - so hopefully some day I can go back to the days where I can hunt out the back door.
Thats a dandy Brother congrats!
What a PIG! Great job!
That sir is just one awesome gorgeous buck!!! Congratulations and God bless, Steve
Jim,
You are putting a new meaning to "home grown". Do you stop at the house and get a cup of coffee when you do the stand switch???
Beautiful buck and way to put it all together in a few seconds!
Good Shooting,
Craig
