Title: Harvesting Osage
Post by: BDann on September 29, 2007, 09:15:00 PM
OK, now that I've read the thread about how good osage is for bows, how do you harvest a piece of it to use for a bow?  I've got quite a bit of it growing on the family farm up in Ks, and I would like to get some of the good stuff before the farmers takes out anymore of the hedgerows.

Find one with a fairly straight trunk. Make sure the bark doesn't twist around the trunk. 6-8 inch diameter is ideal. Cut tree about 6-7 foot long, seal the ends, take it home and split it into staves, peel the bark and sap wood, seal it on the back store it in a clean dry place.
