Hey everyone this is Cade. Sorry i haven't been able to write the story, i've been really busy with school and just haven't had a break recently. But now the story begins.
It was a 4:00 wake up, due to the fact that we were going to westchester (an hour and a half drive). When we arrived we changed our clothes and were off. To be honest we were a little late getting into the stand and while my dad was setting up the 2nd stand i thought that i heard a deer pretty far away. Then once we were in the stand we waited for daylight.
It was about a half hour in when it was full daylight. Then about an hour later me and my dad were talking and he says, "Cade turn around there is a deer".
My heart skipped a beat. I was turned around the other way and i didnt know how close it was. As i turned around, very slowly, i saw him. He was about 30 yards away when i spotted him. He had no clue!
As i went to go get my bow i kept an eye on him. When i had gotten my bow and was ready to shoot he was about 20 yards. He had just disappeared behind a tree and then he appeared again.
Now i got a good look at him i saw a fork on one side and didn’t have time to look at the other. I picked a spot on the edge of the shoulder and concentrated. I then waited for my dad to stop him. Then suddenly i heard the whistle, he stopped and looked right up at me. I concentrated on my spot and i drew back. Once i felt finger in my mouth i let it rip....
-
 great job Cade, Terry needs to turn on the crickets for you now.
-

I saw the arrow fly. It hit him a little above where i was looking at, soon to find out he ducked a few inches and i would have hit him right where i was looking. I saw blood come out as soon as the arrow went through.
He ran away over the hill and i knew he wouldn't go far. I wanted to get out right away and go get him but dad said no, there may be more deer coming and we should wait. AN HOUR LATER, he finally gave in and let us get out of the stand a find him.
We went to the spot where i saw him and saw blood on the ground. It was a great feeling. Then we followed the trail to where he went over the hill. I looked around for a few seconds then i saw him. My heart skipped a beet, we had finally done it. I had killed my first buck.
As we got to him i saw that he was a 3 pointer. He was the nicest looking 3 pointer i have ever seen (in my mind).
This is a day i will never forget. The day i killed my first buck!
-

Absolutely outstanding. Cade I marvel at how you are able to keep your cool during the moment of truth. This is a result of confidence built up through practice. I would not have been able to do it at your age. The future of true bowhunting is secure in young men such as yourself. We need more like you.

My first bow buck 35 years ago yesterday. He had a MUCH LONGER 3rd point (over 2")but not as much mass. Fine work Cade! It is a great honor to watch you growing up with bow in hand.

Way to get it done Cade!!

A few things I'll never forget about this morning....
Halfway to the stand,as it was getting light....the powerful smell that hit us like a brickwall....I whispered to Cade...."smell that?"...Cade says...."that's a buck!"....at the time I thought that hopefully it was sign of things to come...
Cade's reaction after the shot was priceless....and....all caught on video!
This was a big hurtle for Cade....his first "adult" deer....he's killed 3 deer prior. Two button bucks and one doe fawn. He'd set his mind on not killing another fawn this year.
In the past he'd figured out ways to botch up his opps at antlered bucks or big does. Just two weeks prior he'd messed up again on a buck. Not this day....on this day he'd "done it right"!!!!
He said he'd been "looking at the heart" when he shot, but had hit high in the chest...a great shot and we knew was a good one.....Cade says on the video," I think he ducked a little"...the deer had in fact "ducked", we have the video to prove it. We've slowed it down and 2/3/s of the way to the deer, his arrow was covering the heart. His shot was pinpoint perfect. It's amazing how far they can move in a fraction of a second!
What a morning!!!
-
Congrats Cade! That's a great morning for both you guys!
-
DUDE! I can't believe the old man made you wait an HOUR either...I'm sure that will go down as one of the lonnnnnnnngest hours of your life! Way to go man
