What do you guys think is the perfect balance? 10? Bill
-
10 Grains per pound is like a standard....
-
Most of my arrows are around 9.5 or 10 GPP,I like them to be in the 9-11 GPP range.I do like them closer to 10.5-11 GPP on my Hill's.I feel that 10 GPP is a good all around weight range for traditional bows.
-
IMO, there is no real ideal, just different ratios for different purposes.
Mine are oriented toward hunting and range from 12 to 15. I think a target shooting orientation such as for silhouettes and other longer range shots would be better suited with less.
-
I like staying close to the same whether hunting, 3-D or target...or whether 40# or 55#, and that gpp is in the range of 9-11.
-
I prefer 10+ gpp.

I like 9-11, past that I don't like the change in trajectory at longer distances.
-
9-10 works well.
-
When I tune, I always shoot for 10gpp. When I get tuned, I don't worry about it if it is a little above or below 10gpp. Well tuned is the most important thing to me.

500 Grain arrow Very nice FOC
60 pound bow
-
I just finished up a set that came out to 15.76 grains per pound and 14% foc. I was thinking they were a lot heavier than I was hoping for, but they're right on target at 20 yards, so, I can't complain.
-
For wild boars I like 11-12 with a good FOC,for the mountains and thinner skinned animal 9-10,but I hunt with 55-65# bows so penetration is not an issue.
-
May be better served by performing a search for gpp poles. There is one that has well over 500 entries.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Shooting consistently and hitting your mark with a super sharp broad head trumps all! I prefer 10 gpp for most of my bows and most of my hunting.

I shoot Dan Toelke Super Ds and like 11 1/2-12 to 1 arrows. They do not bog down much with heavier arrows.

Are you guys counting points? So...
10grs per inch shafts 520grs for 52# bow plus 150gr tips for 670 total arrow grains
Or
520grs total arrow grains with points included For a 52# bow

Total arrow weight. 10 grs per pound. With recurve this year, 610 grain arrow, 60# @ 27" draw two total pass thrus on a buck and sow hog.
-
Mine is 11.3,weight makes for a quiet bow!
-
10-11 gpp, shaft and point, good balance of speed and quiet for me. But I totally agree with Bisch, proper tune is more important than exact weight.
The perfect balance is what shoots best for you out of your setup.
-
Well a well tuned arrow is always mandatory, then all the rest comes second.
-
For 3D target competition I'm around 9.2 ish.
For hunting I somehow prefer + 11.5 gpp!
The foc is something I look into tough! +23foc.
Out to 20 yards I do not see any difference in the drop on the above mentioned set ups!
3D 46@31 and fatboy 400 105gn upfront weight 425 gn.
Hunt 54@31 GT velocity 300, 320gn up front weight 622 gn.
Both gives same point on at 20 yards!
-
I try to stay around 11 gpi. It works for me.
-
Most of us will shoot between 9 and 12 gpp, it depends on personal preference. I usually end up between 11 and 12. This year I'm shooting 580 gr from 50 lb at 26" in a 62" Toelke HS longbow. For me, this is just about the perfect compromise. I even had the chance to test it last weekend and it works pretty good.

I usually end up between the 9 and 10.
-
I just make sure that it doesnt go under 7gpp..
-
10 gpp for my Hill style bows. They shoot plenty flat at that weight.
