For a custom Talltines recurve! Going with a 62" not sure on riser/limb length yet need to measure the one I have now.
The reason for this thread is that I have no idea what wood combinations to go with, and I need some help!
If you have a Talltines, please post a picture (or five!) And if you could explain exactly what woods are in yours that would greatly help!
I am going to get antler limb bolts and horn tips, not sure on the checkering just yet. The one I got second hand doesnt have it, and I've never had a bow that does.
If you could explain why you chose the options that you did it would greatly narrow down what I'm looking for as well.
Thanks!

This is a 62" bow with a long riser, the riser is cocobolo and the limbs are stained myrtle. This bow is awesome and I really like it. I have 2 sets of limbs for it, 65lbs and 56lbs. I had the 65lb limbs on a short riser but they felt way better on the long riser.
I am most likely going to go with a low 60#'s draw weight, thinking 62-63 and I still have my 50# to practice with in the meantime.
Is there any spine calculator or something that I can use to get a rough idea of the arrows/weight of head that I should be using?
With your Iowa roots I would order a Hawkeye model. Figured Osage limbs with a Phenolic and Osage flared riser. I don't have any pictures...yet. Always wanted that combo but have not got around to it.

You mean there's a wood combo you don't have Steve. :saywhat:
Here is my 62" recurve. Ziricote riser w/ low wrist checkered grip and bocote flair. Limb veneers are bocote as well. She's a shooter!!!

Phenolic with myrtle has nice mass to it!
You will find beauty in whatever you decide.
Brian's work is excellent.
I agree with you on that one Friend, having a hard time deciding!
I'll find one that I really like, then the next one I look @ is even better haha
You should ask Gene Wensel to show you a picture of his TT, what a beautiful bow.
John--Gene couldn't post a picture here to save his life...fortunately I put up most of his pictures and know exactly the bow you are talking about and will dig them up later.
Jacob, if you do a subject search for "TallTines" you will get lot of threads with photos. In the meantime, this is my 62". It is Koa and Wenge. If you want one like that you will have to have a buddy bring you back some wood from Hawaii...

Hey Steve do you have any pics of Gene's bow by chance?
What about some of your plethora of bows haha?
Should I checker the grip?
Here's the link to Gene's bow. Drooled over these pics many times.

Wenge and Bocote, medium grip, 60" short riser, 44@28 in Brown Glass. I was going to skin it but that chocolate colored glass is just too pretty to cover up. Also smoooooooooth.

Contact Josh--Oliverstacy--he has a longbow with great Osage limbs.
You don't need to see it, just order it, I can be trusted :saywhat:
Cocobolo riser with bamboo cored Oak Burl limbs. 60" short riser 44@28. This one will be heading back to Brian for a little grip work, dropping the grip from a medium to low and a checker job. Yes on the checkering.

Very nice bows Yellow Dog!
Most of mine have Myrtle but this one is Cocobolo for the riser and Elm burl for the limbs.
