I'm starting my vacation tomorrow AM at 4:40 AM , will be on stand by 5:50 AM. I have 10 days, but the last 2 I will be bowhunting during gun season, as it starts on the 15th.
We have 3 stands that will work with the South wind tomorrow, bro and I flipped a coin for location, I have the Point stand, he has the Crooked Maple stand.
His stand is a hundred yards from a standing cornfield, he saw 2 bucks from a stand nearby a day or two ago. The deer filter thru several acres of brush/timber into some planted oaks and a big bedding area.
The Point is a yearly stand, good stuff happens there, it is a point that sticks out of a bedding/breeding/swampy area that is close to a mile long travel corridor wide bottomed timbered ditch.
I plan on taking some pics as we go, will try to keep you'all updated...
Here we GO!! :bigsmyl:
BTW- we field dress each others deer..... :goldtooth:
All the best buddy!!
Good luck, and as always, we look forward to the full follow up report.
Good luck Kenny! Keep us posted.

Good luck Kenny. Dressing each others deer is a great idea.
Ended up seeing 13 this am, only the one buck tho.
We just now saw a great 9 that would go 140 plus. He ran a spike out of a thick area. Now we are plotting....
Go get em brother!
Tried a squeeze play on the big 9 but in the thick junk, we only saw does. He is still in there somewhere.
Gonna hunt a stand across creek from a big bedding area tonite. May rattle a bit when the wind lays off toward dark.
I have some pics when I get a chance to upload em....
c'mon were rootin for ya! (a biggun).
Saw 2 real good bucks tonite together. Whats up with that?? The wind changes tomorrow to SW again, and I could be waitin for em where they came out in my ghillie. Wouldn't bet they will do the same thing again tho!!
Had a chance to load some pics, no dead deer yet tho....
Got the squirrel pic slam..

The last pic is one I took Friday evening, one of 2 good bucks I saw, couldn't rattle or grunt either....
The first buck pic is one I snapped before I grunted hum in, he got around in the brush behind me at 6 yards. I was turned looking at him over the remainds of an old cornpicker when I heard weeds being trampled in front of my brush blind..........
Great stuff, keep it coming.
Stay on em , good luck...
,,Sam,,
The weed trampling was a bigger eight that evidently heard my grunts and was coming to check it out.
I would have shot this one, so I turned slowly back towards him,and my stool squeaked a very slight squeak. He was at about 25 yards with a thin screen of brush and weeds between us. guess he didn't hear the squeak.
The deer in the pic above did hear it and took off and the bigger one looped back out around me and chased him out of sight.
Went to pick up my judo arrow which I forgot last nite and from the truck saw a BIG 9 point in an open beanfield by himself!
The hunt continues!! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Tis the season.....good luck.!!!!
Good luck will be looking forward to more pics and stories of your hunt
Kenny, It sounds like you are having a great season so far.
Keep it up and keep the updates comin.
Did I miss something? Seems like there may be more to this story... :campfire:
Not yet! But maybe Wed or Thurs.
Bro and I went deep today and hung 2 stands between some bedding areas, both suitable(I hope) for the NW winds those 2 days.
Now to decide who hunts which one! They are across the creek from each other, but wind shouldn't cause probs for either.
Guess the ol democratic coin toss is in order! :bigsmyl:
Oh, I gotta find more clothes too, 19 for lows and 32 for highs!! BRRRRRRR !!
Bet the rut cranks up tho!!
And I bet I get some deer pics from the stand!
This morning was kind of a bust, a fawn, a spike , six coons, and the usual squirrels....
COLD WIND this morning and bucks finally moving, I had to get outta stand about 8:15 tho :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
I'm guessing you got in the right stand, looking forward to pics.
Keep at it bud!
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Oh yeah!
Here's how it started on this hunt yesterday...
Bro and I went deep today and hung 2 stands between some bedding areas, both suitable(I hope) for the NW winds those 2 days.
Now to decide who hunts which one! They are across the creek from each other, but wind shouldn't cause probs for either...
Pix loading...
This morning he drew the West stand and I the East. When I got there I could see his headlamp coming, we arrived on cue, both at the same time!
We are like twins I swear.....
There was a deer under me before I got strapped in. Moved off with no danged snorting at least.
Shortly after lite, 2 bucks chased a doe up the creek on his side and back past him. they got down in creek and I had my bow out instead of binos. Not sure how big bucks were.
First real chase I've seen this year, a few halfhearted attempts before this.
Now and then a flicker in the bedding I'm watching, a little running and crashing about.
Incessant wind and 20 degrees.
Bro just texted me and said little 8 just went by and he is freezing(I mean just now while I'm typing)
BTW, he now owes me a field dressing job, I told him if he'd help me load the deer, he just as well get right back in the stand and I'd take care of it.
I really dislike photobucket some days.....
:campfire: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
Steve
Finally a big doe comes in in front of me, I stand and get my bow slipped out of my rubber boot. Here comes the buck thru the brush , can't tell what he is yet.....
(http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/IMG_0842_zpsb7bf2417.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/IMG_0842_zpsb7bf2417.jpg.html)
That rub is near the stand but the buck chasing the doe didn't make it cause with the one evil spike he has, he hasn't been alive long enough to wear that tree out.....
Didn't get a pic of him, fingers too cold to operate the camera...
Did I ever tell ya the one about.....
Ah heck, I'm done Lambin around, here ya go....
About 8:15, I heard something to my left rear, my hood was up along with an insulated headmask, so I knew it was close.
Looking over my shoulder, a buck slides down the near vertical creekbank, a decent 8 point looks like. I stand and get ready for him to come up over the bank on my side. And wait and wait and wait. My hands are freezing out of my pockets with the wonderful handwarmers in em.
Then I see another buck standing on his hind legs across the creek with his head rammed in a tree limb. He settled back to all four and I see he is a bit better buck that the other one which I have no idea where has gone.
This buck is looking straight at my stand tree, but I know he can't have seen me with the pinoak nest we ziptyed to the stand tree.
Then I hear the missing buck walking around downwind of me. CRAP!!

Oh yeah, I dressed this one cause I told John to get back in his stand and get another one since they are finally moving a bit!!
I'm very very lucky to have a Bro like John, we work well together and he lets me hunt his place without any restrictions!

Said he saw a dandy 8 point and when he says dandy , I'm all ears!! Hope he makes it thru gun season!! Or John gets him tomorrow or Friday!!
I took tomorrow off work anyway, so I'm gonna boil the skull in the morning for a Euro mount and hunt in the afternoon.
Also, Renee brought me a birthday present a few weeks early. A yellow lab/Vizsla cross . Named her Zwickey.....
Reckon she could be a deer tracker? I'm not much of a dog expert at all....
Way to go Kenny! That will make for a nice mount.
Great Buck Kenny!
Happy early Birthday to yourself! Hope Johns has good luck.
I would love to see a picture of Zwickey.
Congratulations Sir.
Very well done Kenny! Great story and pictures! Congratulations! :clapper:
Bernie
:clapper:
Holy cow that is a nice buck Kenny. Great shooting and thanks much for taking us along.
Congrats Kenny!
Sure Zwickey could be a blood trailer. Just need the training, both the dog AND you... Blood trailing is a team activity with the dog and the handler. Have to get your communication straight to keep the dog on track and for you to listen when the dog is telling you something you might not think is correct... Takes time and experience for both of you...
Congrats again on the buck!
Well done Kenny !!! :clapper:
Bill
Way to go Kenny, congrats on a fine buck!
David

These 2 I took tonite, the big boy was 25 yards from me when he decided to cut out the wrong side of the strip of brush I was in and got a whiff of me. He slipped back a hundred yards and cut across the bottom to the creek. The other one came out 10 yards to my left. No buck tag tho! :)

Well done , Congrats on a fine buck....
,,,Sam,,,
Good job Kenny! One question though, how the heck did you draw and hit anchor with all those clothes on?! I have a hard time when I'm all bundeled up! Guess it's all those years of experience you've got on me!
When the buck is there you don't even notice but I shoot with the heavy clothes often and wear a good arm guard to keep the sleeve tight and outta the way. Don't know what I'd do if it was really cold !! LOL
Will be back after bucks in the morning but will be wearing orange, still packin my ugly longbow!!! :D
Congrats
Beauty is in the eye of the bow-holder!
Beauty is I shoot her better than her purty sister!! :bigsmyl:
Beauty is I shoot her better than her purty sister!! :bigsmyl:

Are you still shooting "Sweet"?
Yep! Just works better for me. Will work on the grip on the other one this winter.
Way to go Kenny!!
Well deserved!!
Good job Mr. Kenny
Nice buck! Congrats!
Congrats brother, excellent!!!!!
Thanks for pics and the story..
Saw this guy last nite, I'm in orange right now for gun season but packin my longbow. He came as close as 30 yards, turned down the trail to go by me at 15, but in big buck fashion, came about 15 feet, stopped and ambled back the other way.....

This is the last day of my vacation, but will try again next weekend. It's been great!
Glancing back thru this thread, I got so excited about photobucket working, I Forgot to tell the rest of the story!! LOL
The buck I shot came over the creek bank, John could see him but not my stand, tho he knew where I was at. As he watched with binos, the deer was coming strait to me, no shot there!! I had to let him walk past at 5' from my tree, while John is thinking "Does he know it is coming? Why don't he shoot??
When the deer got out about 12 yards he turned a little to look for the buck he had been watching, and I knew it was now or never. Quartering away at 12 to 14 yards,no idea I'm on the same planet, great!
So, with John watching the buck thru binoculars, wondering WHY AINT HE SHOOTING?
I let the string slip and hit a little high taking him off his feet with a spine shot. A quick follow up and it was done.
John said as he watched wondering what what was goin on, the buck piled it right there! He thought it was cool for it to go that way!
FYI - I hit him where I was looking, just miscalculated the angles a little. Next shot was also right where I wanted it.
Thanks for following along on my vacation. Can't wait til next year!! Life is GOOD!! :bigsmyl: :archer2:
congrats on a fine buck
Double Post
Holy Cow! I've been gone way too long! School got a little busy.
Congrats on the buck, and thanks for keeping us all updated!
