Title: Blue Ridge Archery?
Post by: Interseptor on November 06, 2014, 05:49:00 PM
Does anybody remember this company from the mid 90s?  I ran across their Snowy River one piece recurve today.  I almost bought one back in the day.  I'm tempted to buy it but there are two draw backs for me.  One, the bow is a 62 inch bow.  I don't really like that length.  And two, the biggie, the bow is rated at 64lbs at 28.  I actually shot the bow but I didn't have a tab so I only drew it back 3/4 the way.  The CX 250 did jump of that bow like a jet.  Question, is it worth taking a chance on a this bow and is there anybody out there who could take some weight off the limbs?

Wish I had bought one back when I first saw it at Silver Arrow Archery. Still remember it felt perfect in my hand. It was just too expensive for me at the time.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a bow if I thought the weight wouldn't be right for me. Unless, maybe, it could be reduced, like you're thinking.

Blue Ridge archery was owned by Tom White from here in West Virginia. Tom hasn't made bows for many years but made some fine ones.  He is now building custom homes. I saw him about three years ago but have not seen or heard from him since then.

I've done some weight reductions for guys, but it's best to use the bowyer that built it...

The question is ........how much weight do you need, and what draw length are you pulling it. That will determine if its possible, but an inspection of the bow would be mandatory before anyone could tackle it... It all depends on the glass thickness and whether it was sanded very much at the time he built it.

I don't think that bowyer is still at it at all, or can even be contacted.

Most folk who do weight reductions nowadays sand the sides of the limbs rather than the glass faces.
