After fighting and making it a lot worse I and my surgeon have come to the final conclusion, my archery career is over due to a left shoulder that is literally pins and needles. It is sad but life goes on. I will have everything for sale so those interested can pm me. Thanks and take care of your bodies.
Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I've been staring back surgery in the face for a while, and that's one reason I have avoided doing it. I hope you can enjoy all the other things in life that you like, despite the shoulder problems. Best of luck to you.
Paul
I am very sorry to hear that I hope everything works out for you and you still get to enjoy the great outdoors one way or another.
:scared:
I'm sorry to hear this Keith. My best friend is concerned he may be finished as well. He's had a frozen shoulder since early summer.
Man, sorry to hear that. So bad you can't even handle a 35lber?
That just bites! Sorry to hear!
Keep on keeping on!
Bisch
Keep your chin up buddy.
Sorry....Hang in there, things may change. The Lord is the great physician
Age and our past does catch up to us all eventually. Have you considered hunting with a really good camera? Everything you see will be in season, and you can share the candid lives of all those creatures with us here.
Get a second opinion.
Go hunting with the camera . Can you use a hand gun to hunt with. Still get out there and hunt any way you can.
Dang Keith, I remember you were healing up about two or three years ago when I met you at Baltimore!
I'm sorry to hear about this, is there any way you could shoot LH?
It would be pretty cool to be a state champ LH and RH! :readit:
Sorry. I have been able to come back from not being able to shoot due to a shoulder injury. I know that it could flair up at any time and put me in the same boat as you are in. I hope I can handle it as well you seem to be when I get to that point. Good luck
Could you find a young person to mentor and pass on your knowledge and skills?
Hunt any way you can - get out there. Past does catch up with us. Hate the shoulder issue but step back, regroup, and attack from another direction.
GODBLESS MAN!! Keep your head high I am sure your depressed but things could be worse
I like Roadkill's suggestion. Sometimes one door closes and another one opens. A camera or maybe picking up a rifle...? For me being out in His creation doing something would be a blessing.
Remember Bob Thompson broke his arm or something one season. He worked on shooting his w/ his feet. Believe he killed some stuff shooting like this.
Don't let this set back keep you from the woods
So sorry to hear your misfortune. Any chance of shooting a mouth tab? Please keep your head up. If I can help you in anyway please don't hesitate to ask.
Big Ed
That's not good. I might try shooting wrong handed or with a mouth tab before I gave up for good. I always thought if I couldn't shoot a bow I would spend my time messing with flintlock muzzleloaders.
Oh that's just plain sad. I agree. Get a DSLR!
My go to off season weapon
Do not stop hunting brother!
sorry to hear that man that is not good but look on the bright side theres always fishing take care.
Keith-sorry to hear about your unfortunate prognosis. I hope your shoulder heals and gets better and you could possibly find another approach to hunting with a bow. Good luck brother and Godspeed to you!
Kenny
A friend of mine was in a terrible accident years ago it turned him into a paraplegic he thought life was over. As a traditional shooter and an great turkey hunter, two thirds of what he did with his time had just been turned up side down. My brother in-law could see how depressed he was and decided to take up a collection. He put enough money together to buy Lee a 4 wheeler. After the party to present this great gift to him Lee was told how much it ment to us that he didn't give up on hunting. Its has been challenging and not all is cookies and cream trust me. But the look on his face after gutting his first buck after shooting in on the ground in a make shift blind we put up for him at 12 yards well I think we all won that day. Even though Lee had to use a bow that was not his choice by any meaning of choice it kept him hunting and he is still chasing deer and turkeys making turkey wing call. Turkey leg back scratchers and filling as many of those holes in his life he can. I hope you will not give up on what you love to do, find something that will replace one love with another but never give up.
Bruce
Like others have said keep on getting out and enjoying the outdoors any way you can. One door closes and another opens

Inspiration Brother, but it it really bothers you that much like others have said find another route. Camera, rifle, or pistol some days I feel like a camera would be more appropriate to tell my adventures.
Doc forced me into a compound to keep me shooting. Put a weight limit and time limit on my trade to keep from tearing my shoulder up further. He wants me to shoot, I just can't hold the weight right. Have you tried that? I know it's anathema, but it's my last stop before muzzleloader and I still feel like I'm connected to my ancestors-they'd take any chance they had before taking to the smoking lodge.
That is unfortunate and sad but a new page will turn for you. Take all those traditional skills and do something else with them. Lots of good suggestions here, hunting with a camera is fun and you never lose a critter to a bad shot
Best of luck to you on your new journey
I am sorry for you,but please stay in touch with us.
If you can't handle a bow there is always the crossbow as an option. As much as I love my recurve I would make the switch if it meant I could still be out there.
so sorry to hear that. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Thank's for all the kind word's. I will keep hunting in some capacity, sat in the stand this morning with the camera. going to hunt with a shotgun in a couple weeks, just not the same though. As far as mentoring I have and will continue to help and teach all that want my help.
Wishing you the best, Keith.
I guess I will second the second opinion notion. I would also think a little farther out , try a good yoga person. I have seen it work wonders and it has helped me. I feel for you but I'd look at other avenues for help. Even acupuncture. I'm as old school red neck you will ever meet but yoga and acupuncture have worked for me. Best of luck
Good luck Keith. I hope you will keep hunting and not be a stranger here.
Went to lefty now my left shoulder aches plus I got cataracts but my cancer is in remission.
Sorry to hear that. Hang in there!
Sorry to hear your news. Wish you all the best. I had an uncle that ruined a shoulder and can't bow hunt anymore. He turned to a cross bow and a little 870 20ga with a sure shot stock and he's still in the game and getting it done! Don't give up!
I seen a guy shooting a recurve bow and he only had one arm . He had a nylon strap like a piece of a dog collar sewed to the string and he pulled back with his teeth . I never seen a more perfect release !!!
Keith,
Sorry to hear about your plight! I dread the day I cannot hunt with a recurve or longbow. But the choice of weapon is not nearly as important as the ability to enjoy the hunting experience or lifestyle, whether with gun, bow, or camera.
I still rifle hunt and reload my own ammo and enjoy the time outdoors with my brother, nephews, and friends immensely, regardless of the weapon used.
It is more important to find joy in what you can do, then dwell on what you could do in the past. Relish the memories but enjoy today in whatever capacity you can.
Here's to many years of hunting to come! Cheers!
Pesonally I would keep all of your archery gear. Even if you can't shoot it. Not as a reminder of what you can't do anymore but as an encouragement to work towards getting back there. The yoga suggestion is a good one and if you can get back to shooting a light bow (#35) or even a light compound that's better than nothing at all. Don't give up.
Hey Keith,
Although we have never met or even talked I really wish you the best. If your interested I will be more than happy to talk to my wife to see if there is anything you can do to help with your problems. She is an occupational therapist and really does help people everyday with their injuries. I will post either tonight or tomorrow with some possible exercises if there are any that can help you.
Dang man....just don't throw in the towel. I blew my ulna tendon last year saving a stage prop for my daughter...and I shot with my teeth for a while. It was kinda fun re-learning.
is a crossbow an option ? I would just hate to give up hunting, no matter what it took.
